I'm thinking about selling my HiFiMan HE500's and getting some Grado Rs1i's.  I feel like the HE500's sound too much like my Sen HD650's.  Is this a lateral move/move down?  I'm looking for something a bit different.

Have you seen the Grado Fan Club thread? Likely many people there that could give you a better idea of how the RSi sound in comparison to your other headphones: http://www.head-fi.org/t/530965/grado-fan-club

That's my big dilemma! I don't know if the IEM that I use nowadays (the SE215) is way better than the Uptown, or if it is just slightly better, of even if its worse!
If it is really better, I don't think I will be buying the Uptowns. Do you really think they are not worth £56?
I saw some reviews putting them into the same standard as the Audio Technica's M50, and if it is true I think they sound quite well, and not far from the SE215.

Does anybody has another view on this? Thanks!

Well if they didn't have this bad clarity, then they definitely would be worth 56 pounds. They are also very light on bass imo. But for what it stands right now, I think they're worth like maximum 40 pounds. Keep in mind, I'm not an audiophile. I haven't heard the M50's.

Hi, just a new member lurking here

I posted in the iem thread asking for recommendations, but would like to have some recommendations on headphones too, as I am either getting iems or headphones
biggrin.gif

My budget is around $500 SGD. For headphones, I would like a good soundstage. I will be using these for my laptop and my phone, hence it should be easy to drive without maxing out the volume. Sound signature wise, tight strong bass with clear vocals and detailed highs, also I am wearing spectacles hence comfort is a must.

I am looking at the sennheiser momentum and the vmoda m100s, I read reviews that the m100s are very easy to drive but for some reason it is very soft on my galaxy s3.. I am open to other suggestions too! Close and open, no preference, as long as it is loud enough without cranking up the volume.

Sorry--I don't know what SGD are and you do not list your home country on your profile when you post.

I don't understand why you think that that the more expensive, neutral and better HD 500 sound like the HD 650, which feature a mid-bass hump.  Maybe like a very clear and extended HD 600....

The RS 1i is a bright and colored can that I very much like, especially for rock, blues and other guitar driven music.

Read more about all these cans here:

Actually the M50s are almost three times the price of the Uptowns now! That's why I am so inclined to buy the Uptowns, they seem to be very well recommended here on head-fi and the price is decent now. I think I'll buy the Uptowns and maybe I'll post something here about that!
I wish I could find the Uptowns to listen before I could buy it, so it would be easier to decide...I'll let you guys know!
Thanks for the opinions!

The M50 is a very decent entry into the closed can world and definitely worth the $110 that's being asked of them these days. I'm not a fan of the sound, but it does produce a quality signature for the price of admission. Just keep in mind there is a reason why it's usually the first people look into and will eventually lead to upgraditis.

Budget: $200-$250

Use: Gaming and movies with dolby headphone

Gear: Schiit magni, astro mixamp, ps3

Desired Sound: I have tried out the DT990 and DT880 headpone. I do prefer The DT990 for its big soundstage and very nice home theatre like bass. But both these cans are far to bright for me especially the 990's. Im looking for something with pretty much the same traits as the DT990 but with a much smoother treble. Can't handle those highs on the 990 otherwise they'd be perfect.

Keep the budget in mind plz.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

THis is what I have

- All things pop from Bon Jovi to Evanescence to Christina Perri to Coldplay etc

Many thanks

(SOrry I live in a remote location and nearest store is 4 hrs international flight to audition anything)

Okay, so, in Canada, the MDR-V6s go for about $100. I need something cheaper for him, so this time, I'll say he has a $40 (american) limit to buy headphones, with these properties:

1. Bass strong
2. comfortable
3. very durable
4. "wow" factor
6.  great with electronic music
7. Sold in Canada, for a max of $60 in their currency

I hope this'll work out, now. I wish Canada wasn't more expensive in their products :c

edit: wow, in Canada, the CAL is almost $140...

Are these found commonly in Canadian stores? They look perfect, even better then the MDR-V6s in fact, for what he needs.

Their website ships directly to Canada

You see, he can't buy online... Probably should have put that in that post and not just the one a few pages down the road :p

Ugh, this is getting impossible. Hes probably going to end up getting some $20 skullcrushers at this point :/

So, on the off chance someone can save him from that miserable fate, I'll restate everything:
1. Bass strong
2. comfortable
3. very durable
4. "wow" factor
6.  great with electronic music
7. Sold in Canada, for a max of $60 in their currency
9. Sold in Canadian STORES
10. Sold in Canadian middle of nowhere stores, in the newfoundland tundras that he describes as the "Florida of Canada" because all the rich people retire there. Electronics won't be as popular there.

Edit: You know what, I think the list we've created for my friend is easily enough, there is no way he won't find something on the list:
CAL!s, Superlux HD 661, MDR-V6, Monoprice 8323, and as a last resort, a Sony MDR-XB#s. With how often I talk about headphones, I accidentally made him wonder how good headphones can sound, and I think one of these could show him where they can go c:

What's the problem? No credit card? Buy a visa gift card or give a friend the cash to place the order. No address to ship to? Ship to a friend's house. Otherwise, with that and your other restrictions, makes it near impossible for anyone to help.

And "wow" factor for $60 with all those other restrictions? Very difficult.
