There is just one thing to hope for and it is Bug free firmware, easy and simple menu and stable, fast, stutter free operation. Then there wouldn't appear need for rockbox.

We hope so. we almost finish the UI design, I don't think it will be difficult to get use of it cause it is just iPod style , not icon. and not picture display, video , book, record features  save our time and make it more easy.

of course, I guess all these features is not necessary for a audio player.

We only care for a clean bug free software, with emphasis on Audio only  (and album cover would be nice).

NO, dac or dac/amp? yes, USB dac or dac/amp? unlikely

Sorry I don't quite understand what you mean here. Maybe I should clarify because my post was weird. I meant would I be able to connect something like my uha-6s mkii which is a dac/amp device to the x3 so I can utilize the dac and amp in my uha-6s mkii? Kind of like me plugging it into a pc or gs3 or note 2.

Wouldn't alac support require an apple license?

Im already sold on this player, will the 3.5mm jacks be nice and stong, despite my being gentle i've had two players fault on them.

Alac has been opened to public, some time.

The E17 is just fine as far as size is concerned. +1 about a bug-free UI. I'm confident they'll pull it off since they are making it dedicated to audio and will not try to add the bells and whistles most of us have no use for. My only issue is the estimated battery life, largely because we don't know the bit rate or the volume setting used to gauge it. All else sounds really good to me and Fiio deserves credit for taking the lead in using customer feedback to build a product - it's a simple marketing strategy: "Tell us what you want and we will try our best to make it happen."
