Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread

when the lcd2 first came out, it had a very lush, slow, warm(to me) sound, and needed a lot of power, the lyr and the mjo were really good then my favorite was the mjo, it had power to spare, and kinda lightened up the sound of the lcd2, which i prefered. the lyr was just about as good, just warmer than the mjo, and a lot of folks liked that.
as the lcd2 progressed, the sound it bass lightened a bit, it got faster, more prat, which i found the mjo wasn't the best option for me, the lyr became better with the newer lcd2.2's
then i got the soloist, which was good, but it really didn't get juices flowing.
enter the bryston. BAM ! power, snap, a sound slightly to the warm side, and its flexibility , and having that 20 year warranty from such a great company, made it my favorite solid state
amp.
as for designer's claims, while i listen to what they have to say, my own ears are the best judge, and i don't pay a lot of attention to numbers, most of them
i don't really have a grasp of what they mean in practical use. i'm not very technically knowledgeable .
if some piques my interest, i'll try it for myself !

I know. Wish I could demo one. The price plus shipping is not miniscule. Plus Bryston too large to hide...you don't know my wife...:D

I know a while ago people said that K70X didn't supplement LCD-2s well, but I sort of want to pick up a pair again for gaming now that I actually have an amp that can drive them to their full potential.

Despite the different sound signatures, do you guys find that the Audezes still beat K70Xs in most qualities (other than sound stage of course)

If the AKGs don't supplement them well, what does?  K701s are so cheap too...

The Geek Pulse + Audeze LCD-2 / LCD-XC / LCD-3 bundle deals are still up and running but will only be active for the next few days.  Looking at wrapping up this offering by early next week.

If I'm reading this right, they're selling the LCD-2 and a Geek Pulse for the price of an LCD-2?  Am I reading that right?

My LCD-2.2F's match my Q701's for soundstage tbh. The Q701's only win on a lighter sound signature and physical weight and more perceived speed and detail due to the treble. The x7xx would compliment the non-Fazor much better IMO.

So I know this isn't the best thread to seek unbiased information on the LCD2, but I'm going for it anyways!

I recently discovered the HD650 after being enamored with the bright sounds of the Q701, HE-4 and the like.  I'm pretty happy with it right now, but not enough to get rid of my HE-4.  I would love to find something that would combine the best of both worlds:  that planar bass and detailed treble of the HE-4 with the tingle-inducing mids and make-anything-sound-good magic of the HD650.

From my preliminary research, it seems like the LCD-2 might be that headphone.  Some folks, however, have told me that the Audeze are overpriced and to look into other Hifiman cans.

Unfortunately, I don't live where I can audition expensive cans (or any cans really) so I have to buy and sell used to get my education.  These are a bit pricey for me to do that without alerting the wife so I'm hoping to get more honest data from you good folks.  I know everyone's got their opinions, and the best thing for me to do is hear for myself, but let's start with this and see what happens...

Shoot @Mshenay a PM, he loves his HE-4's and auditioned my LCD-2.2F's. He's a treblehead who loves planar bass.

My honest opinion on the LCD-2, which I own (Rev. 2, 2012), is it's perfectly neutral. It's just not on the bright side, which MOST high-end HPs are.

Very very few cans, even high-end ones, have that articulation, detail and right amount of mass/quantity/fullness on the bass down to sub-bass...so other vans would sound on the bright side...or at another perspective, the LCD-2 will sound on the dark side.

Again, the amp has to have enough power, and must be neutral, not warm. The LCD-2 is definitely not for the faint and left-leaning amp.

I've been listening and listening to my LCD-2 to see if it's dark or whatever...it is NOT. But it honestly portrays the amount and tone/note of bass in the recording.

I agree - nicely put

And in case anybody is thinking about it, I never use any cable with silver on it, from player to HP. All my cables, except the Apple CCK and stock LCD-2 HP cable, are Oyaide OCC copper including my USB cable (Oyaide-Neo d+ Class S). So no treble is added by any silver in the cables...:D

Yes, it's not dark but it's warm.  But I think it would sound more neutral if the LCD-2 had more of an open sound (and design).  Meaning, their open headphones, but they have a semi-open sound to them.

Can anyone here comment on how they sound compared to the HD650?  I've heard they're very similar.  I find the 650's to sound really closed for an open can.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I'm starting to wonder what "warm" really means, or perhaps what "neutral" really means. To me, slightly "warm" phones sound like the real thing to me much more than a "neutral" phone does. In the real world, treble information gets absorbed much faster than lower frequencies so, to my ears, the real world actually sounds slightly "warm"
