That sounds like QC issues on the part of Ultrasone.  Contact Randy - the wood inlay popping out is just unacceptable.  As for "scuffs" - are they scuffs or actual scratches?   Do you have any pictures?

I'm a little tired of the contacting and warranty and stuff. The local distributors are nice but I just live too far! I've changed the Edition 8's ruth to the Limited for the squeak reason. And what I found was incredible. I Didn't think much of the rutheniums sound. They sound ookaaaay. But the Limiteds blew me away. Also, the stitcthing and overall fitting of the leather on the headband of the ruthenium was poor compared to the Limiteds. The rutheniums were floppy and loose.

The palladium's had the same squeak because they used the same black foam at the hinge instead of the grey felt ones so I paid the difference to get the Limited. But I was so confident in Ultrasone that I did not inspect the limiteds closely and went home with a bulging wood inlay that popped out completely after day 3. lol.

The problem with pics is that the scratches might not show but I'll try my best.

My understanding was that the ruthenium and LE were the same headphone just different styling.  You are certain they sound different?

Alright these are the pics.

Taken three weeks after purchase. Babied incredibly. And have no idea why these scratches keep popping up. One every week or so. This 'durable' and 'scratch resistant' ruthenium is taken a toll really. I rather much have plastic now.

Tempered with only once, when the wooden inlay's dislodging on both sides, thus glue was used. The German  'master joiner' failed at keeping these in place sadly T_T  I should have taken them back to the incredibly friendly retailers I got these from, but I am just tired of driving all the way there to deal with RMA. I already returned a pair of Edition 8 Rutheniums

anyway..

This is the first 'scuff' on the left cup.

Second scuff. Probably a brush in with my jacket zipper when I was wearing a hoodie. Its the only time I actually do remember unwanted/unintentional contact with something hard.

The glue fumes that evaporated out from underneath the inlays discoloured the ruthenium as circled with red. Also around that area is a jungle of scuffs caused by me trying to remove the discolouration (was hoping it would be removable, but its permanent discolouration). I was polishing that area with the included soft blue cloth. Which scratched the surface of the ruthenium.

Right earcup.

Conclusion

I do love this LE Ed8. They sound magnificent. I've gotten around the metallic tinge which it imparts to my music, and sound wise, these are a top top, world class headphone. However, the build quality of this German product is shambolic. Mind you, I returned the regular ruthenium due to unbearably squeaky hinges. All the boasts of ruthenium durability is just a myth. The 'master joiner' used cheap glue. The QC is poor. The cable strain relieves on both sides of the headphone are extremely noisy and loose, on both the Ruth and the LE. I hope the Palladium users take more care of their headphones, because palladium is a far 'softer' metal, and paper might scratch it if plastic can undo ruthenium.

Top product? Yes.

Will I ever trust Ultrasone sales pitch again? probably not.

Now I'm gonna put these back in its case, and will only use them in highly highly controlled environments where nothing harder than my fingernails can touch them.

I was the Edition 8's biggest fan, still am, but I'm now an Ultrasone skeptic.

Cheers, and dont polish these beauties too hard!!

Indeed. As for closed cans, I don't think they really have any competition, at least currently.

Well, I'd been mulling over getting them for quite a long time really, but it's a deep plunge to take and also a huge bet when you can't actually hear them first (Belgium being sort of the headphones' third-world. At best. It's a no man's land for that, you can't try high-end anywhere).

They do sound supremely nice -at least compared to everything I know- and I find their sound highly addictive. I certainly don't regret the purchase. Plus, I got the LE for $1400 (new), which is actually not too bad.

That's better than my $1499 brand new from an authorized dealer last year (RMC Audio). Great price.

I do have that little scuff mark you can see at a certain angle, luckily though I never see that angle as that i am wearing them.  My wife may see it but she is too busy scoffing about such ridiculous expenditures that she doesn't even like looking.  In fact the only time i have seen her notice was when she snapped a shot of me wearing DX1000s and threatened to post them on facebook.

Well, after two full days with them most of the time, I do think they sound admirable, however I remarked what could be considered a flaw, so far: I find the cable highly microphonic. Is it just me, or...?

So at least according to the local JP distributor, The Ed8Ltd is finally sold out (new of course, not 2nd hand).

At least to me, what's surprising is that it took so long!!

I'm not sure they were at this price back in May. I wonder why price is taking a hit like this, though I'd imagine they're not exactly flying off the shelves either, at their nominal price.
