Nothing. I just got my JH16 for less than a year.  JH audio has been great and communicative to me all the time. They replied all my emails within 3 hours. Impressive service. And I have to mention for ear molds, they probably have the most accurate techniques to make the smallest IEMs possible

My communications with them were very positive as well. It will be 6 weeks this Friday since they received my impressions for JH-16 3A combo. I am really hoping they arrive this week.

Thanks Kremer. I have already sent back my JH16 back to the JH audio. I will ask them to throughly clean my drivers and tubes. Also ask them to adjust the canal lengths and tune the sound. I hope they will resolve my sibilant problem.

U could be right about the angle how the tube points to my eardrum. I believe this is the sound signature of JH16 since I have heard lots of people commenting that JH16 has bright sound.

I have often wondered how they clean the iems. I am always careful not to push wax into the tubes using the cleaning tool.

OK I've been looking all over the forums for 2 days and can't find an answer to 1 question.

How is the bass of the 16s compared to other hi end IEMs and headphones?

Do they have the more bass of any IEM? Better than tf10, IE8, etc ect

Do they have better bass then headphones like the D7000/5000, ultasone 900s, Beyer dynamic DT 770 pro 80, ect.?

PLEASE, if anyone can help me out and answer some of my questions I would be extremely appreciative. I want to know these things before spending over $1000 on a pair of IEMs.

Mike.

Really, you haven't read about that anywhere?

Yes, they are bassy. Fast, accurate and impactful bass. Thing is, rather than reproduce the bass present as most products try to the JH16 seems to have an internal "bass switch" that's always set to "on".

And yes, I would say it's better than that found in any of the products you mention. But then again, all of those products are less than 1/3 of the price of the JH16.

You like bass? You'll love it. If not, the JH13 might be more of your thing.

Keep in mind BA drivers still won't move as much air as dynamic drivers. So you will get that nice and natural bassy sound but it won't be ear rattling like the IE8 or MG7 are.

OK thanks guys. Projectdenz...I know what you're saying about the dynamic drivers bass. I read about that a couple days ago. I would probably go with the jh16 because of the better clarity. As long as the bass is just as good (sound wise) I'm OK. I don't need to have it "ear rattling".

Staal, I really couldn't find a definite answer about the bass compared mostly to other headphones. Its pretty crazy to me that a little IEM can surpass the bass of full size headphones.

Thanks again.

Mike

Also Staal, what headphones do you think have just as good or better bass than jh16? The D7000 are $1000 MSRP so you could say they are close to jh16 in price even though you can find them for $500.

To be honest I didn't think price mattered when it came to bass headphones. I was looking in other threads and people were recommending q40s and they're less than $200...

The bass of JH16 is special that's for sure. I have never heard any bass like that in any of my other IEMs . But it still doesn't come close to hi-end full-sized headphones for sure, and no IEMs will. So if you want great sound, portable, customized earphones. go for JH16. If you want real quality of hifi sound. I suggest start with full size headphones first.

earphones are the compromises of full sized headphones, full sized headphones are the compromises of speakers, speaker are the compromises of live shows

. This applys to me easily at the same price range:wink:

I personally find the bass on my JH16 driven by the Rx3 is better than the bass on my HE6 driven by my Lyr with Lorenz tubes. The HE6 have more detail and air in the top end though IMO.

I gotta disagree as well. Granted, I haven't heard all of the top contenders in the full-size league, but I find the bass on CIEMs to have more impact probably due to the isolation and deep fit.

Well you wouldn't need a dynamic driver at all with a custom to blow away the bass on their full sized competitors.  The BA drivers are within a few millimeters of your eardrum, the amount of air they must move to produce comparable bass is greatly reduced due their placement.  Think about it from the top down.  A speaker system needs large bass drivers because they have to impact you from across the room, full sized cans will need drivers capable supplanting bass all the way down your ear canal to your ear drum.  I think we can assume that a good amount of bass (and full spectrum sound for that matter) is lost on just your head and surrounding ear as it finds its way into your ear canal, hence the required sound level is higher to produce the same effects.  In contrast, like Staal has mentioned, the seal plus proximity of customs to your eardrum reduce the required ratio of impact sound level vs sonic impact.  If you pull your JH16s out of your ears while they are playing music that is pretty loud, I'll bet you can barely hear them if you set them on your desk.  The same test with full sized cans will reveal that this is not the case and that you can easily hear the full spectrum of music when the cans are placed in front of you.  Now all that taken into consideration you might prefer the tone of your full sized can's bass more so than your customs, but that could be said of any speaker and is highly dependent on its driver's construction, manufacturer's voicing, etc, much less so its placement.  But I'm still willing to bet that the JH16s (or any custom for that matter) will have a much easier time of reproducing heavy bass do to its inherent placement near the eardrum.

Hmm Probably I haven't heard of many IEMs with great bass. Apart from JH16,almost all my IEMs reproduce bass with slow decaying or poor texture. It either doesn't impact powerful and deep enough or bloat the rest of the spectrum. I certainly do not feel them moving much air at all. In constrast, LCD 2, D7000, Ed.8, even T1 I can actually heard the bass be really produced and sound really dynamic (even some of them are closed headphones).

JH16 is amazing in the bass department. But it still doesn't give me the feeling that my bone resonants with the reproduced bass ;p
But I absolutely agree with the theory on the distance of drivers to the eardrum.
