Audeze LCD-2 Orthos

I agree, there must be some issue with a batch of drivers. There were so many of these shipped previously and never a mention of a driver issue. I don't treat mine any differently from any other headphone, and I've had them more than a year, no problems. I have several times removed the grilles, changed cables dozens of times, changed headband....no problem. So these recent cases would either be an odd run of really bad luck, or a higher driver failure rate than we've seen before. Maybe Audeze can comment. I am sure they will get it sorted out, though. They responded well to a few early issues with the headband.

Here is my chair. It´s not just for headphone leisure it´s for movie watching, general gaming and of course racing simulations as well. WAF close to zero.

Don´t have the speaker mount though and use a cobra daytona chair. Nice with some neck and back support for the LCD-2 :)

Thanks folks for your responses. I had around 140 hours on my set. Funny thing is though inconvenient I am OK with things going wrong as that is life and things are not perfect. It is how it is dealt with that is always the concern for me and from what I have seen and also Audeze's responses to questions asked by me in the past I have no worries on that count. Who knows, maybe they have started to do 3.5mm terminations on the cable as they were saying they are going to do that soon and if so I might be able to get option if they end up just replacing them! Glass always half full here!

From what I have been reading thus far the weight of evidence does seem to indicate a batch problem as the phones on the whole have been very reliable.
Oh yes, my serial # is 5698645

When i had mine never had any problems with my driver. I agree Rob it something going on with the batch of drivers as there is more than enough issues with the new driver to believe their manufacturer is the issue. They should comment on it to eliminate any concerns and to protect their business as many will now be concerned. They always stand behind there stuff and thankfully there is no issue with the ones out of warranty but I bet they would step up also.

One of two things:

A suddenly substandard batch of a critical part used in driver assembly, or

A poorly thought-out design change.

I would assume the former as the latter would seem out of character for these guys. I am sure that they will get this sorted out soon.

Hopefully there won't have to be a recall

I had a fault with my LCD-2. Although I bought it from ALO, due to their lack of response I called Audeze directly. I spoke to Sankar (from London), who went out of his way to help me resolve the problem quickly.

I mention this because I believe they are stand-up guys, who will from my experience support their product and those who purchase it.

So far does it seem like all the driver failures are on the right side or is that my imagination?

To the folks who had to send back their headphones, how long did it take for you to get a response?

Arghh! Plugged in my LCD's switched on the Amp and nothing from the right Channel! Just emailed the folks at LCD and so the wait begins till either they are fixed or replaced. Ah well, at least I know they are a company that stands by their product very well. I wonder if i should mail the cable as well, i guess it is best to send them back in the plastic case as that would be the best way to protect them!

I guess my Etymotics will have to do until they come back!

Second case I see in a week.

Yes I had to give up my speaker rig because I do not have the proper room for it in my current home. No matter how I tried I could not get it to integrate into the large space I meant for it to live in.  Ergonomically it just kept getting in the way of the families goings about here and there.  So it had to go. Thus ending at least 30 years of speakers rigs and leading me to my very first pair of headphones.  I do keep a small rig using Mirage speakers for composing my own music at my iMac so I'm not entirely without but it is near field listening which is something I'm not fond of at all.  I spent 24 years editing TV shows and mixing them in near field environments and never liked near field listening.

So it's LCD's for me now or bust.  Once I get a real amp for them I'll spend some months deciding whether I can adapt and enjoy or sell it all off.   I'm not a casual music listener.  I never play it as a background element.  It's either I'm listening to it to experience it or I don't.   Now that I have the LCD's I'm looking for a really comfortable chair to listen in.  Anyone have any chair suggestions? :)

Cheap = IKEA Pong chair $200 + some time to assemble it
Average = Unico lounge chaise $800
Pricey = Le Corbusier LC4 chair $1,500
Insanely pricey = Herman Miller Eames lounge chair $5,500

Edit: Man am I late to the party or what? Plenty of people answered this already with practically the same suggestions...

You can get very good copies of many of the designer chairs for a lot less $.  But if you're going for the premium build and materials you can certainly pay quite a bit for it.  You don't even have a category for my favorite - the most comfy chair I've sat in, and it did happen to be in someone's listening room: The Hans Wegner Ox Chair.   You could buy all the chairs on your list, a pair of LCD-2's and a Leben 300XS for the price of one Ox Chair (licensed version).  You can find the same chair made in China for less than the cost of a pair of LCD-2's (it won't be made with leather, nor nearly as well built, but many would be hard pressed to tell the difference). Anyway, it's a very comfy chair.
