What did you guys use to burn in your pair?

Music. Just played music through them for a few days straight with my Fiio S3.

Didn't want to take the MTPC thread off course, so I'll post it here. I just read Enanthate's judgment that the PR1 Pro has recessed mids:

Do others here agree? I searched this thread already, but only one or two people commented on them.

Hehe like i said and you probably have read, i dont really agree. Its mids are not forward for sure and thus can seem recessed compared to other phones, but the pr1pro just sound perfectly balanced to my ears, with NOTHING forward or recessed, bass, mids, or treble.
Also, before i could get the full pr1pro sound with the biflange, the mids did sound a tiny bit recessed to my ears, so you should make sure you achieve a perfect fit with adequate depth of insertion with these

EDIT: i know im insisting hard and repeating myself but i cant help thinking a lot of people here (that are still satisfied with the sound, like i was) are in fact not getting the full sound of the pr1pro because of inadequate insertion depth

Edited my post to slightly recessed

. I still use the RE0's mids as my standard for natural/neutral mids. I find that in comparison to bass and treble, the PR1's mids are slightly recessed. If I adjust the volume to where bass is impactful and treble sparkles, the mids are just barely behind everything.

Edit: This is using sony hybrid tips.

'Recessed' is a very relative piece of audiophile-speak. When used without a comparison it is usually taken to mean that the range in question is recessed compared to the rest of that particular earphone's response. In that sense the PR1 is not recessed to me. It is a wide-sounding earphone and as such you can call the entire range recessed (which doesn't make any sense). I just call it balanced.

However, in that post it is being compared to the MTP/C. I only have the MTP/G and it is a fairly forward earphone. Not etymotic-forward, but quite intimate nevertheless. So compared to the MTP I suppose the Cyclones can be called recessed. Same goes for comparing them to many other popular IEMs (the HJE900 for example).

The PR1 Pro has nice mids that are not recessed if you fit them right. Many people mistakenly call mids recessed when they are further away. They are an open sounding phone and not intimate with a bit of a convex image. I never heard the Mids any less prominent than either the bass or treble. They are not forward either, just very balanced.

Those are my feelings also, although if you dont get the right fit (deep enough insertion) the soundstage will appear "flat", in front of you, 2D feeling and lacking the 3rd dimension. A proper insertion depth will restore the 3rd dimension and give that "convex" image but since the soundstage is very wide and far away, you still wont get that immersive feeling that you can get with some other phones. Like joker also said before, i dont feel any frequency range is recessed compared to the others in those, everything is just presented further away which i also think is the reason some people feel their mids are recessed (that need to up the volume to feel the vocals closer). And joker was spot-on saying they are great for open air live recordings, i always end up listening to those with the pr1pro because it feels so right with them. Im gonna post the review i started writing a few weeks ago but gave up about posting since the M9 biflanges changed my whole impression of those. Will still be interesting since nobody has posted extended impressions but joker about the pr1pro.

Also, an interesting anecdote :
Found back my cyclone pr1pro case with the original tips inside that i had misplaced.
So i tryed the original stock biflange again to see if what i thought i remembered was right (killed all the sub-bass vs single flange, worthless) since i am now using the meelec m9 biflange which look extremely similar but are a huge improvement over any other tip especially soundstage-wise.
To my surprise, turns out my memories were right, stock biflange kills all the sub-bass whereas the very similar m9 biflange give me the fullest sound i can get.
It's amazing how such a virtually imperceptible to the eyes difference in tips can make such a huge difference in sound quality. When i first got to headfi (been lurking for a long time before signing up), i used to find quite laughable to see how people here could spend so much time and money experimenting with different although apparently very similar tips. Actually even right now i would hardly beleive what i just wrote hadnt i experienced it first hand.
While i dont care for the M9, im glad ive bought them for this alone.I've ordered a bunch of ebay lelong biflanges, hope they are similar to the meelecs, if not, gonna have to stock up on those from meelec website.

The lelong are like the Cyclone stock ones. The M9 are thicker than most. Swapping the Cyclone and M9 work better for each phone respectively. The sound sig is the reason, M9 are full and get too thick with more seal hiding detail and crispness, and collapsing the stage a bit. They are better with the thinner sounding lelongs and, to me, reach their best with less seal similar to IE8 and some other phones. Cyclone performs well with a better seal.

I feel that the true Head-fiers really need to have a big fit kit. Many makers miss the mark and ears can be so different. Many try out earphone and miss their potential even w/o realizing it. Heck, nowadays, it's a real surprise when an earphone sound it's best with the included tips.

Hmm... the PR100s are tempting. Very. But I just bought Klipsch S2s for absolutely no reason, and Ai-M9Ps yesterday... I think that's enough for the minute.

Also I think it was indicated that PR1 Pro > PR100 by expectation.

I finally got these in the mail after a grueling two weeks of waiting, and all I can say is wow, everyone was right.

Hopefully ecci brings these back from the dead so I can call them Jesus and worship them for the rest of my life.

not. but kind of....

Ah, congratulations on joining the lucky few who have experienced these wonderful IEMs.

I am happy to say that my original pair is still going strong despite almost daily use for four months. Of course I'm pretty careful with them but still... they may not be as delicate as they look.

I'm still waiting on my PR100 and PR200. Anxiously.
