JH Audio JH-13 PRO impressions thread

I can see how moar drivers could have a greater dynamic range than the JH13Pro. I can make my JH13Pro clip with a portable amp (see review). But when using my Woo WA6 or Single Power Square Wave XL amps the JH13Pro can play louder than I can stand, without any distortion (fear for whether I would burn up the drivers making me stop as well). Once that loud was enough.

To go back to this question -- absolutely. I spend more time of the day with these in my ears then without. I'm also a full-time student with a part-time job. Between comfort and sound, there's no real reason to take them out. I'd guess they're in there between 8 and 10 hours a day. That's actually more headtime than my older headphones got in an entire week. With this taken into account, they're simply an amazing value for me.

I could squeeze a little more isolation out of them if they could "twist" a little more and lock later in the turn, but I'm fine as it is since I don't have to take them out to talk to someone close by. Which means even more headtime.

Actually Larry, I think what you are hearing is your portable amps running out of steam (clipping) vs driver compression, if that's what you're trying to describe. Stands to reason too since, per your description, you can drive them louder with your desktop amps. What that means is that a desktop amp provides considerably greater headroom (peak and RMS), than a portable amp is capable of.

When it's that loud, by the way, it's too loud!

Question: Does anyone know what amplifier Jerry uses as a reference for SQ when voicing his IEMs?

Got the 13's today. Fit was absolutely flawless and I'm not exaggerating about that. The only time it is slightly loose is when I'm eating and that is more me feeling them in my ears.

Now on to the SQ, it's easily the best IEM I've ever heard. It's leagues better than the W3, 530, and ER4P. It's made me realize the flaws in each of these IEMS. The best way I can describe it is a perfected ER4P.

How it compares to the HD800s is intersting. I won't go into details regarding that comparison yet as I'm having slight problems with my BA so it isn't a fair comparison yet. It does seem though that the 800s do have a slightly better soundstage but the 13s win in bass(obvious I know).

Pics via Iphone later.

That's what I like to hear!

Mine just arrived at JHA for a refit today. I'm going to call Adam tomorrow to see what he thinks and see if he has any questions for me. I'm hoping they can ship them out tomorrow so I can get them by Friday!

And every item in UE's custom portfolio except the UE 4 Pro (though I might be wrong).

I have never sold a earpiece to the live market that I personally have not mixef on.The 13 translates to both live and to mastered music. i believe the 13 is more of a reference earpiece than the 10. This is because of how accurate the frequency response is combined with the much faster transient response. The 50hz bump is so low that it adds only the mpact that a mixdown engineer wanted in the studio without the masking mid bass frequecies that are way to loud in most IEMs.

The bottom line is no matter if it is live or mastered music the 13 does a great job. You get out of it exactly what you put into it.

The JH16 on the other hand was designed to be a live earpiece 1st. The 16 is a 8 driver earpiece that is built for the loud bands. It is still accurate and has a fast transient response but is built for headroom.

Feel free to post any of this.

Best regards,

Jerry

Did anybody notice the 1st?

I think he means "1st" as in "primarily". Not "1st" as in "before".

Yes that's what I mean

So maybe Jerry is working on a more neutral JH16 too?

He designed the UE11, then other UE engineers decided to tune it differently. So the JH11 was supposedly the UE11, but obviously now with even better drivers.

Also any one willing to do me a favour? If you've got a really transparent pair of JH13 like say Clear, or 25% Smoke or something where the drivers and all could be seen clearly. Mind taking some close up Macros and posting them? Would be appreciated, doing some research on drivers. Thanks!

I'd like this as well. It's hard to perfectly see the units in mine 'cause of the pretty color.
