Never heard MFN or MOV of Deliverance but the 2X 180 gram Koch release is all I could ever ask for as far as sound. I can't even put into words the difference from CD. There is a ton of crappy vinyl out there but the Koch is a treasure in my humble opinion. If everything was the same price then it would cause questions. It's just that this stuff is rare and hard to find. As a plan, someone could order all three and listen to them and sell the rest used.

You are also going to find equipment will do 90% of the sound in comparison to record pressings. Only after putting together an optimal rig does any of this really matter. Simply changing a set of headphones or a cable is going to be much more dynamic than any difference in pressing.

That's probably true. If you have a $50 phono cart, obviously don't waste your money on a $200 NM MFN copy of Blackwater. Where vinyl really lets you down is when its just a CD master adaptation, as was the case with the SubRosa vinyl.

What's funny is the original press of Still Life has similar production problems as the original CD, and yet it goes for serious cash, while the recent re-press is actually an improvement over the original and its affordable as well. That's a case where the typical "first press is always best, and worth insane money" wisdom is completely wrong.

Yes, maybe sometimes we forget that there are record collectors who just like having 1st pressings and don't even listen to them. I would hope the new Zeppelin remasters, out this year, are way better sounding that the originals?

That's the fun of vinyl, the hit or miss factor. I'll never forget how bad my copy of Party Animals by Turbonegro was

that was really cool, thanks for posting that.  i kept expecting some sort of death growl to drop!

i'm listening to an EP from Sutekh Hexen...really, really strange stuff (and LOL i'm probably way behind the curve again on this one).  i think Handmade Birds is becoming my favorite label at the moment.  this is the kind of stuff i can get into, but i recognize it's not for everyone

Reminds me of Suthcliffe Jugend and Anenzephalia. I imagine they torture prisoners with this stuff in the Gulag.

I'm with you on Handmade Birds. I bought two new releases they had a combined discount on and they both are brilliant. I'm just waiting for the next newsletter LOL
That track wasn't so much into my comfort zone though. Hearing damage sends constant shivers down the spines and lock up my back and shoulders:D

Edit: Now that you brought it up, I think I'll preorder that Jasper TX album

I urge everyone into extreme music to check out this amazing ritual ambient/ power electronics track by Sui Generis Umbra:

And if you've survived that one, try this one by Diagnose Lebensgefahr:

And if you still want more, Sutcliffe Jugend:

Pleasant dreams kids.

First two tracks were really beautiful. I'm not completely sure about the vocals on the second one, maybe if I couldn't understand what he says it would have worked better, some foreign, more evil sounding language. Also, this kind of stuff usually works better within a context on an album so I might look into looking into these! Thanks!

Sutcliffe Jugend, meh, wouldn't describe as a musical piece. More like a splattered painting. Not for me, today at least

awesome.  the Sui Generis Umbra track was absolutely fantastic and exactly something i've been loving lately, and i can find a place for that Sutcliffe Jugend as well.  The second one i didn't like the vocals.  Harsh noise isn't for all the time but sometimes it oh so scratches that itch.  thanks for posting

very good point, noise works best in context (assuming there is one) and especially "ritual noise" is best as an album format.  and hey...sometimes you just need a good splatter painting....i think this track was blood splatter but it's all good

Isn't it possible that people are paying more because it's "the original" and just has more value as a collectible, not because is sounds better?
