i have a disease- its called adhd -or- attention deficit headphone disorder.

i had spotted the jvc harx series a while back and could find zero info on them except for specs. i was interested in the 700 and 900 particularly. after waiting for a while i finally decided to spend 38$ shipped price for the harx700 from buy.com. these things came in a huge box and look very similar to the audio technicas which i also own

the jvc seem well built, are heavy, well padded, and comfy. these wouldnt put off a headphone enthusiast at all- they just look and feel good.

so how do they sound? very similar to the a900! nice highs and booming bass. they dont reach quite as high or quite as low as the a900's but man are they close. the best way to describe the jvc is not quite as 'clean' sounding as the a900 (whick are extremely clean sounding to me). and these are fresh- no burn in yet. i will burn these in overnight and report back.
so far its safe to say that these are a poor mans ath-a900. there is NOTHING even close for less than 40$ shipped

i think you're confusing a900's and ad900's.

This definitely needs more attention!

Will any member round here find a pair and post more impressions?
What if someone took a pair APART? We want the pics of the driver!

Chinesekiwi, you might be right about the drivers. Except for some higher-end Sennheisers, AKGs and SONYs the drivers in the highest-end headphones are made in the same factories as the ones for i.e. a Philips sold at 1/5 the price.

...and with many models / manufacturers, they are actually the same!

If they're half as good as this guy claims, I'll have to figure out where to pick some up!

ha-rx700 - Google Product Search

You can have them for some $30 without shipping. $35+ shipped is reasonable if you're willing to dig.

That one is just Victor's model number for the same headphone. HA = JVC, HP = Victor.

These look very interesting. How comfortable are they? I'd be using them for several hours at a time so that's pretty important. Also, how are they at sound leak, both in and out? Thanks!

Is someone going to take these apart? I'm not sure I have pictures of the A900 drivers, but I do remember how they look and I'm sure we can find some pictures online.

If they really have similar drovers to the A900's this means I can have some nice moding headphones for a low price
