Skylab, the bowls are fun and do say something for a conference. However, you put wayyyyy too much stock in them. There is a certain element of happenstance to them. Let me offer a few reasons for the Pac success other than the conference's sheer, almighty greatness.

First, the one point I've seen rarely mentioned in the media, who is in love with myth making. Arizona, Cal, and USC played games in their home states and much closer to campus than their opponents. I don't think this can be underscored lightly. Now let's look at the opponents. Miiami had suspended five players and started a true freshman qb, yet was still within seven points of Cal. OkSU lost its starting AA reciever, and its starting qb played the entire second half with a separated shoulder. OrSU/Pitt played a windy 3-0 slugest. Flip a coin every time that one is played. Penn State would lose that game ten times out of ten. But, how would they fare ten miles from Gainesville? Norman? Austin? Take the Gators, Longhorns and Sooners. All three have jumped up to 30+ first half leads at home, against then top ten opponents this year. I wouldn't say USC did something unimaginable.

See where I am going with this? The PAC deserved a ton of credit and can bring out its own excuses, no doubt. Then again, I never was silly enough to say it was a bad conference in the fist place.

And we don't care about what you think about what we think, etc.

I thought this was an excellent idea too. The matchups he presented looked great.

I can see how I may have come across this way, but actually I agree with you 100%. Not to worry - they are not the main determinant of how good a conference is, I agree.

However, I do think that they are great fun to watch and talk about

Nice win by Ole Miss today. Looking forward to the Sugar tonight - predicting a Utah upset win!

Okay, sorry for assuming then. The early returns are not good for my Big 12 South. I knew Ole Miss would be a tough matchup, and I think UF will be tough for OU. I do like Texas against tOSU though.

We shall see. If any you Big Teners want to bet for the Fiesta, then bring it on. It takes every measure available for me to root for the Longhorns, which it appears I must do at this point.

I hope the Sugar ain't a dog tonight.

Arizona played in Las Vegas. Tucson is a little closer than Provo though.

People have been throwing that idea around for years. It's a shame nothing has come of it, though, because it's an excellent idea.

Well Utah is throwing the Tide around like they are nothing. 21 points in first quarter. Where's that tough SEC defense now?

Yeah, Utah was impressive. Oh to have the next round be USC v. Utah and Texas/Ohio State v. Okla./Florida. with the winners to play for the championship.

Well, we (Virginia Tech) won the Orange Bowl! It was a good game for us overall. Cincinnati's fans were really some of the worst breed of football fan I've come across in terms of the sheer amount of immature insulting and trash talk they aimed at us before, and, surprisingly, even after the game! But man, we had a great time. We (the band) are staying overnight in Georgia and are going back up to Virginia tomorrow. What a great trip to Miami for us!

Now we just need Oklahoma to lay a beating on Florida to finally prove that the SEC is not unstoppable.

If Texas beats tOSU, and Florida beats OU, then we could see a 3-way spit for the NC. I sure can't see how Utah doesn't get a lot of votes for #1 after that performance - it was pretty impressive. They look like one of the best teams in the country, that's for sure. Hands off to the Utes.

Time for Notre Dame to join the Big Ten, and for Boise State and Utah to join the Pac Ten, and then all the BCS conferences except the BE would get 12-team leagues with championship games in football.

Sounds like a good idea Skylab.

Yeah, join a friggin' conference Notre Dame!

We could find four teams for the BE - East Carolina, Memphis, Marshall, Buffalo...

The MWC has TCU too. That's a solid program that used to be part of the old SWC. I would hate for them to get left out. I guess someone will be without a chair though. Air Force, Navy, Colorado State, Nevada...
