AKG K 701 amp

brokensound didn't elaborate, but the oil on your hands will create "hot spots" on the tubes, causing shorter lifespan. actually, it's also good practice to do this when changing light bulbs as well, esp. those big halogen spotlights/floodlights you might use to illuminate the outside of your house

Cost is a defining factor. If you are going to use it often and don't plan on upgrading, I'd get as much as you can. I am using a SP Platinum with all Black Gate caps. Just decide your price point. Keep in mind though, you may want to get more than one set of hps. In that case, the better the amp, the more versatile with other hps.

I really enjoyed the 701s out of the Corda Aria. Believe it or not. YMMV though. The transparency of the Aria and its ability to drive the 701s were a nice match. Very smooth also.

What sort of maintenance do you have in mind?

Would the porta corda mkIII be good enough for driving the k701s????

nc8000 and I listened to the new Xin Reference driving K701s and we both agreed that it is *very* good, and you would need a good home amp to better it. I also find that my RSA SR-71 drives my K701s very well.

FWIW,

I found the following amps (which I currently own) work beautifully with my K701s :-

1. Earmax Silver Edition (surprisingly!)
2. Rudistor PRX-100
3. LaRocco Pocket Reference II with PSR (portable)
4. Woo Audio WA6 (mine was ordered with the K701 in mind!)

Replacing the tubes after X hours, etc.

Where X is a *very* large number and etc applies to all types of amps.

I've just tried two portable amps with the K701: PAV2V2 and Hornet "M". The Hornet beats the PAV2V2 hands down, and it has a very good synergy with the K701.
I read also about this combo and i think the Hornet should really be considered when looking for a portable amp for the K701. The SR-71 must be awesome too (never heard it), but i prefer the Hornet regarding the ability to recharge the battery, autonomy, single battery and of course the size ...

I've been using my AKG 701s with the GCHA and even out of the DAC1 and I'm happy with it. Also, it sounds good out of the PPX3 Slam as well. It also sounded great when I had the HR Microstack with desktop module.

PCIII is decent but arguably suboptimal for the K701. For the price it currently sells at, though, you may also give it a chance; even though I would rather go with the new Little Dot Mk I myself. Its sound signature should match the K701 well, too.

1) How do you know all this?
2) Do you even have a PCIII and a k701?

Heretical, your tone in your posts is totally unnecessary. It accomplishes nothing but creating ill will and adversarial relationships. That is not the spirit of this forum.
