Amping? Yes. Excessive? No... Modi/Magni combo is at the minimum, which is under $200.

Your post had me thinking about a leather pad on the HD650. I cannibalized the mounting ring from an old pair of pads, inserted them into a HM5  pads(also oval and about the stock 650 pad size), and it fit quite nice.

They sound fantastic.

Deeper bass, everything sounds a bit tighter.

This looks good. Who makes those pads?

Brainwavz, but the mounting ring is from the actual Hd650 pad, I have changed them a few times so I had old pads around to destroy.

Ugh looks like I'm not allowed to make a thread. Can anyone suggest a leather headband alternative headphones to the HD650s? Accuracy for mixing is #1 priority, wouldn't want to spend more than a grand. The mod mentioned previously probably makes wacky changes to the sound.

Never thought I'd be back to head-fi. I thought I decided to settle with the 650s for life. However, my headband started to crack and honestly I hate the velour cushions/pads, I need leather or some kind of smooth synthetic material.

With my HD25s I can be all oily with sunblock on me and still put them on no problem. I can just wipe them off if they get gross. That's awesome.

To cover the cracks and get a soft band for your headphone, you can use the Beyer headband strap which does the job nicely. Makes it really comfortable and covers those cracks that you can get.

I think I'll have to look into this. They're not exactly expensive.

Nice job Fearless!! I had a pair of these that I tried with a mod on the he-4. Didn't work out so I gave them away. :o
