hd25-1 impressions thread

I've been readin on portable amps in the amp section and was wondering how big of a difference there would be running a amp with HD25 (the c&c box+ is small and intressting). Or maybe it is a waste of money?

edit.
the c&c box+ wasnt that expensive either + free shipment (head-fi offer of some sort). Anyone know if this amp is a good match with hd25?

On a more serious note - my hd25's have been out of commission for a number of years lost a pad, lost an ear-pad. This thread decided me, to get the bits and put them back into use. Thomman - I'd never heard of them - good value compared to UK prices. Neutrik right-angle plug costs about £8 locally, less than €5 from Thomann, ripp-off Britain indeed.

I'd say buy the hd25 and enjoy them on their own for a while to get a feel for the sound and fit. They seem to work fine out of most devices, while of course getting even better with good sources/amps. There's no use throwing more money at it until you have tried it for a while though.

Hmmm.... looking at the Sennheiser web page there seem to be mark two versions out now (HD 25-1 II). Anyone know if there is a difference? Or have they always been named like that?

The 25-1 II seem to be new - they appear on the 'New Products' page of the global site at least:

http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...topics_newprod

The UK site still lists 'HD25-1' (no 'II') and doesn't have HD25s on the new product page:

Grrr. They make the same headphone for twenty years and just when I figure I might buy a pair they release a new model!

I doubt they're different, the specs are exactly the same. Could be wrong though, could you keep us posted if you get a reply from Sennheiser?

As best i can work it out, the range used to be:

HD 25-1 (also referred to by Sennheiser as just 'HD 25').
HD 25-13. 600 ohm version of the 25-1.
HD 25-SP. Cheaper, single headband.

The new line-up (at sennheiser.com; sennheiser.co.uk still has the phones listed above) is:

HD 25-1 II.
HD 25-SP II. Cheaper, single headband.

I can't find any mention of an 'HD 25-13 II'.

The HD 25 SP II seems to have lower nominal impedance than the HD 25 SP (60 ohm vs 85 ohm):

HD 25 SP: http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/icm.nsf/root/03759#
HD 25 SP II: http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...sf/root/502103

but, as 2ndbest says, the HD 25-1 and HD 25-1 II have identical specs:

HD 25-1: http://www.sennheiser.co.uk/uk/icm.nsf/root/02976#
HD 25-1 II: http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...f/root/502188#

This from a Technical Applications Manager ar Sennheiser UK:

"The new HD 25-1 is basically the same as the old one, except that it is now delivered complete with a bag and the optional velour earpads.

Mechanically it is the same - but I am sold that the mini-plugs have been improved in that they now have round gold pins instead of the flat aluminium ones - this should improve the connectivity at this point.

Yes, they will be in the UK when they go into production.

There will also be other versions, including one with a coiled cable."

Impressively quick response and detail. I'm liking Sennheiser already!
