Oh bloody hell!

When 2 obsessions combine, am I doomed? The sound of music plus the pressure of depth. My idea of a perfect evening would be a night dive, followed by music and some local rum, followed by...well, skip the friggin rum and gear up for another night dive! Oh, and I could meet Gene and Wayne during deco stops!

This could be worth skipping CES...

This thread has been pretty quiet! Let me wake it up again.

I'm thinking February 16th (Thurs) through February 27th (Mon) which would allow people to come for either weekend. We could have 'official' meets on the Saturdays: 18th and 25th.

If we end up with a small number of people, then it will make sense to try to zone in on one weekend or the other as far as a 'meet' goes. But I'd still like it to be as open as possible, so that people could come and go as they wish. Wives, girlfriends, kids, parents, all are welcome. I'm sure we can work out something reasonably cheap for accomodations one way or another.

gerG, it's good to hear from you! I hope you'll be able to make it.

Anyone even remotely interested, please chime in, and let me know how these dates work for you.

As much as I'd like to fly to the Caymans on my Birthday, I've blown my travel budget already.

Between CES, Photoshop World, visiting family, and possibly the Nat'l Head-fi Meet. Argh!

If I change my Scuba trip to Little Cayman and Cayman Brac (instead of Bonaire) and come the second Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday...I might be able to do this.
gerG...I can lead you on 2 night dives right near Wayne's house that are to die for (hopefully not literally).
We need to check on which weekend is President's day because that would be a blackout period, and kids are off of school.

As far as flying the Cessna, between Stevieo and I alternating pilots, it could be done, but we would have to get a military refueling plane to dock along side of us, unless we want to refill in Cuba, which would be an adventure in itself.
If we rented a seaplane, we could coordinate with agile_one to carry 40gallons of avgas on his yacht.

Remember, it's all about the music

Due to a lack of interest at this time, I've decided to postpone the Cayman meet until May/June. Early summer normally works well for more people, and it will be "slow season" as far as tourism goes, so we'll be able to arrange cheaper accomodations.

But my offer will still stand for anyone wishing to attend who would prefer to stay at my place for free. Whatever it takes, I've got a couple of couches and an extra matress, and can always get air matresses or even a tent for the backyard!

I'd really like for us to do the meet this summer, so please start planning for it budget-wise and time-wise. Anyone who thinks they might be interested in attending, please drop me a PM in terms of how your schedule is shaping up for May and June.

Thanks!

Wayne

It's not really a lack of interest in the mind, more like lack of interest from the bank on my measly $110 savings account.

Measly is a funny looking word when you really look at it.

So true, and that's what makes it difficult to organize a Head-Fi meet outside of the US. It's not only the cost of attending (airfare, accomodations, meals, etc) but also a matter of finding the time to come! I'm sure most people will want to make a real vacation out of it, and not just come for 2-3 days but more like a week (or even more). This means that the dates will have to be set early enough to give people time to organize themselves and clear their schedules, (i.e., arranging vacation time from work for him and her, figuring out what to do with the kids, etc.)

Even though it will be on a much smaller scale, it's almost as though I'll need an organizing committee much like that for the National Meet. Ok, not quite! But still, for those of you who know FOR SURE that you'll want to attend the Cayman meet (Aaron, agile_one, stevieo, and hopefully many others), please let me know ASAP. What I'd like to do is to start working on the dates, and nail that down quickly. If we can get 5 or 6 members to agree (anyone, first come first serve, and your wives and kids are welcome to come) then I can start planning it from this end. What that may well mean if there is enough interest is getting a good group rate at one of the condo places along Seven Mile Beach, which would be perfect for those wishing to bring their families.
