    CEntrance DACmini DAC/Amplifier Official Thread

The default power supply bundled with the Dacmini IS the "Premium Stability" power supply. It's a bigger power brick that has a DC connector on one end (connects to Dacmini) and an male IEC socket on the other end (to power cable).   You plug the mains side of an IEC appliance lead to the...

    CEntrance DACmini DAC/Amplifier Official Thread

I too ordered the pre-amp version aka variable output mod. And so it is ultra flexible. I've replaced a class A preamplifier and dac and headphone amplifier all with the one unit. Of course I'd pay even more for selectable fixed/variable output, motorized remote volume control, updated form...

A $150 printer doesn't even come with a USB cable, and that is a worldwide standard. An IEC power cable is country specific, and costs a few dollars. Chances are you already have one laying around...

HD650 - what benefit would an amp give me?

Better dynamics, better bass, fuller sound.   I don't have a Squeezebox Boom, but I have a Squeezebox 3/Classic and the headphone output on that is low powered.   Running off an dedicated amplifier, even a simple/cheap one like an Altoids make a big difference because there is a big...

    Sennheiser HD600- coiled cable replacement?

Hi,   I'm looking for a coiled cable to suit my Sennheiser HD600.   Does such a cable exist?   I'm not interested in audiophile aftermarket cables. Durability is paramount.

    Help, replacement for KSC35 :-(

Thanks PeterDLai, What a great technique. I tried this and yes it did add the KSC35 to my shopping cart. But unfortunately I'm in Australia, and Koss wont let me do online shopping. (Online orders must be placed using a US address) Still the best exercise headphone IMHO. What else have...

Dance/electronic music vs home headphone equipment.

I've DJed for 8 hours non-stop with Sennheiser HD25. In a club environment with 90dB+ continuous. The slightly boosted bass means that I can turn down the volume (protect my ears) and not skip a beat. In the privacy of my own home I enjoy the same headphones. When I go record shopping I carry...

    NAD C521BEE + NAD C320BEE ---> is this alright?

I prefer Rotel amplification. More neutral. Some say it's brighter or harsher than the NAD, but that's because the C320/C320bee/340/C350 tend to be warm, And that's compared to many other amps, not just the Rotel.

    NAD C541i or Arcam CD62?

The C542 is a direct replacement for the 541i, and it intended to hit the exact same price point. The $699 retail price is undoubtedly an Australian price. (equivalent of 280 GBP or 450 USD), so yes Australia IS a heaven for NAD lovers.) Perhaps this was what Stymie Miasma saw?) It's...

    ***The Audiophile DJ***

Any decent poweramp will work. You already have the mixer so why buy a receiver, or even integrated amp? That said, save your money for lots of "top notch" vinyl and PRACTICE! Make like-minded friends- this will fast-track your progress/learning curve. All the best equipment isn't going to...

    Arcam Diva CD73?

I wouldn't call Arcam overpriced. US/UK gear in Australia is overpriced in GENERAL. One of the few standouts is NAD gear- Australian enjoy even cheaper retail prices than UK retail prices. eg. the 330 pound (UK) C541i/C542 retails for $AU$699- the equivalent of only 280 pounds. Knowing...

    Denon DCM 280 or 380

Hello, Has anyone had experience with the Denon DCM 280/380 multi-CD changers? I was considering the NAD C542 but like the idea of a 5 disc changer with .mp3 capability... (don't hit me!)

    Panasonic CT470 doesn't like CD-R's?

I burn all my audio CDRs at the lowest speed my burner allows (8X)- works fine. At 24X the player sometimes has difficulties reading the TOC, skipping tracks, or working with the anti-shock turned on (i go jogging with it)

    PSB Alpha B loudspeakers (Australia)

There's not a big price difference in Aussie bookshelfs. They all come in at around $700. You could pretty much choose between every entry-level bookshelf on all the bigger manufacturers (Tannoy, KEF, NHT etc) The big savings are to be had on floorstanding models. The cost saving is in the...

    PSB Alpha B loudspeakers (Australia)

Has anyone in Australia audition the well-like PSB Alpha B speaker? How much does it go for around here? What did you think? Is it suitable for _real_ bookshelf use? Or do they need stands? I will be partnering it with either a 10wpc microhifi system (Panasonic SC-PM03( or an ordinary...

    Panasonic CT470 doesn't like CD-R's?

I have LOTS of CDR, of various brands and prices (from 15cents per disc nonames to 50c per disc TDK/Kodak etc) and do not have any difficulty using them in the SL-CT470. From memory though, the player does not handle CDRW though. (only tried this once a long time ago so someone please correct...

How good is this headphone amp?

Hello j-curve, Thanks to your writeup on the MSCA have decided to take the plunge and have a go at the SCA. I could not locate the PCB from Dick Smith, so will proabably buy the kit from Altronics, plus other parts to perform your modifications. It's part of my grand plan of putting a...

HappymaN: How much ($AU) did you get the UD-M30 for? Did it come with Mission speakers or Denon speakers? When I went to buy the UDM30 in Australia it came with Denon SCM30 speakers. In this configuration I did not experience the kind of quality that deserves the rave reviews it receives...

    MP3, WMA, and OGG

Really, for portable use 64Kbit Ogg or WMA 8 seems ok. Gone are the days of weird and obvious artifacts like ringing/flanging. To be honest when you've got portable phones on and in a noisy environment the difference between these and uncompressed PCM is hardly noticeable.

    Headphones $0-$100

The 497 and 212 are both silver. Some like the look of em, but to me they look cheap and plasticky. (I wouldn't be caught dead walking around with big silver cups to my ears.) Perhaps try the 202 (black); much more conspicious and not so large. Sound good too.

    Impressed: Sennheiser HD 202

I was at my local record store last week and realised they've changed all the headphones. Every listening station (Technics SL1200Mk2 -> Sony integrated amp) is now outfitted with the Sennheiser HD 202. Usually I bring my own headphones in (usually KSC35, rarely HD25) but I was curious and...
