Topaz Low-Capacitance Isolation Transformers - for Affordably Clean Power

Have you been looking for a very effective, yet affordable solution for removing common-mode and normal-mode noise from your AC mains? How about a way to prevent noise from being injected back into the mains from your audio components' power supplies? How about a way to prevent ground loops...

Your Date of Birth is now displayed in the Head-Fi Profile, by default.

Date of Birth information is often exploited for the purpose of identity theft. Do you want Head-Fi to publish your Date of Birth for all to see? If not, edit your Head-Fi profile and remove one or both check marks that are currently enabled, by default.

Audiophonics PCM5102 battery-powered 32-bit, 384kHz DAC with XMOS USB, Coaxial, and Toslink Inputs

I've been researching DAC chips lately and decided to start looking for a "transportable" PCM5102 USB DAC - which means I don't intend to carry it in my jacket pocket, but I want it to be battery-powered for the low noise benefits that come with staying off the mains.   But I'm most interested...

The all-purpose ultracapacitor-powered Vinnie Rossi LIO

I haven't seen a thread introducing the Vinnie Rossie LIO, so I'll get things started... This is a very appealing product, with a pick and choose modular design and off-the-grid power using ultra-capacitors instead of batteries. Really! http://youtu.be/9pPigQ_5N_s More info...

Songs that make us bust a move!

There are several songs out there, across many genres, that deserve to be called "toe tappers." These are the songs that, for whatever reason, get you moving involuntarily - and that's the keyword here. I'm talking about those songs where you just find yourself rockin' unintentionally...

The Member-Judged Fine Art Head-Fi Gallery

Here's the plan:     Post only your most "artistic" photos of Head-Fi gear to this thread and stand by to remove your photo if it fails to generate any acclaim!    I want this gallery to be self-policed.  The mandate here is that posters will exercise some measure of humility in deciding...

Would you be interested in a portable source that has no built-in headphone amp?

We have so many portable headphone amps to choose from and there are several DAPs available with Line Out, but to my knowledge, no one is manufacturing a DAP that lacks a built-in headphone amp.   The parts count and therefore the cost of typical high-end DAPs could be greatly reduced for...

Do your 96kHz files contain 44.1kHz music?

This evening, I happened onto a Positive Feedback article by Teresa Goodwin, titled:   Are Your High Resolution Recordings Really High Resolution?   In the article, Teresa describes how to use Audacity to display a file's Spectrogram and/or plot a Frequency Analysis.   It didn't take...

CEntrance DACport LX vs. iBasso DB2 Boomslang 2 vs. JDS Labs Objective DAC

As promised, here's my comparison of the following DACs:       From left to right:    CEntrance DACport LX ($299), iBasso DB2 Boomslang 2 ($299), and JDS Labs Objective DAC ($149)     Here are the chains that were compared in a blind a/b/c comparison I performed with a...

Dark Knight FAIL - another CD mastered with excessive gain

I had pre-ordered Hans Zimmer's The Dark Knight Rises from Amazon, eagerly awaiting its arrival.   Dark Knight FAIL - once again we have a CD that was mastered with excessive gain!     9 out 15 tracks have heavy clipping.   Now I get to wait (how long?) for a remastered version (if...

You know you LOVE your headphones when...

You know you LOVE your headphones when...   ... you shave your face under the earpads (to prevent wear) every time you put them on!    I keep a disposable razor handy so that I can dry shave around my ear and upper jaw right before putting on my LCD-2s.    Tell us how crazy you...

Should I upsample 44.1 kHz files to play on a Sony PCM-M10 that can handle 96kHz?

The Sony PCM-M10 LCPM flash deck is capable of playing 96-kHz/24-bit WAV files.   I've been downloading 96-Khz/24-bit FLACs from HDtracks, then decompressing them to WAV using dbPoweramp, but leaving them at 96/24.    Obviously, there are a lot more recordings available in 44.1-kHz/16-bit CD...

Trying to connect a Sony PCM-M10 to a Meier Audio Corda Stepdance...

Correction to what I wrote, below: The Stepdance was waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home. It has 1/8-inch mini jacks, not 1/4-inch as I had assumed from photos- doh! The two patch cables provided with the Stepdance are not very substantial. Any recommendations for better interconnect...

Shure E4G's sound better w/o Headroom Supreme

Hi everyone, This is my first post to Head-Fi. I've been reading these forums long enough to tell that you guys are sick, so I'm going to start limiting my visits - hopefully I won't catch anything. Meanwhile, I know there's no better place to ask for the advice I'm seeking. In...
