USB is a defined standard.  The USB cable shouldn't make any difference (at least not for charging).  I've charged my X5 with a wide variety of cables and never had any problem.

The X5 is a USB 2.0 device.  You can use a USB 2.0 cable with a USB 3.0 device, so there's no need to get the more expensive USB 3.0 cable.

Yes, I only have flacs and alacs on my X5.  Note that gapless doesn't work for shuffle play.  Also, the file limit appears gone -- I've got 6,700 songs and, it appears, the X5 is indexing all of them.  I tried shuffle play by genre last night and it worked perfectly.

Gapless playback is fixed!!!!!!  Hooray!!!!!!   This is huge, because it was make or break for me.  I've only tried two tracks (because I'm impatient), but the played through flawlessly without any gap, click or glitch.

With all due respect, I think you are missing the point of this thread.  Fiio IS getting its act together with respect to file number limitation.  That's why they've released a beta version that addresses exactly that.

I don't think it's the number of files.  Also, I have around 6500, not exactly -- I just watched the counter from time to time as the X5 indexed.  I'm betting that they "stole" memory from the buffers for gapless to make room to index more files.

I agree there's no click.  However, I find, for continuous music, the gap is noticeable.  I'm using music that I recorded and mastered and I have track breaks that do not follow breaks in the music -- it should play right through.  It does on FW 2.2, but the gap is noticeable (and unacceptable)...

I was just going to post something similar.  I dropped the 2.31b beta because it no longer supported gapless, though the file limit problem seemed to be solved.  I wish there were a separate beta thread for this firmware so we could track progress.
