Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

620E for the classic with warranty is really hard to beat. Much as I hype up the classic I'd probably hop on that as long as the extra cost isn't a big hindrance.

I've had the old pre-fazor LCD-2, along with the fazor model and the Classic, and of the three I prefer the Classic. It's a nice midpoint between the other two with the richness and low end you described.

Oop sorry, wasn't clear LOL When I talk about the angle, I mean looking from the side. As in, the top of the cup to the bottom slants so it somewhat follows the shape of your head: It's a super minor detail but I'm so used to big over-ears doing it that I wish these did lol

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

The build quality is really good IMO. They're heavy and solid. There aren't any creaks or weak spots that I feel. I would not call the soundstage quite like an open back, but definitely bigger than the majority of closed-back headphones. The bass-heavy tuning can close things in a bit due to...

I would hope the 900 beats the Teak considering we're talking a near $2000 headphone up against a $400-500 pair lol

If you can get a pair of Nighthawk and don't think that bass = bad, grab them and be happy. The NH is "mostly closed" with a small grill opening that functions to eliminate wave interference and just sounds awesome IMO. I miss mine.

Resolution is good, to my ears. I mean coming from the Audezes and Grados it's gonna be a step down in a few directions but the multi-driver setup helps a lot. Once the app comes out for some EQ'ing I think there's a lot for people to enjoy here and I'd probably say they're the best sub-$500...

BTW if y'all don't like bassy/warm headphones the Heavys are NOT for you lol Me, I'm happy as hell with them, but they feel like they're very much from the same bloodline as the Momentum rather than the HD series. I'd call them a competitor to something like the V-Moda Crossfades more than...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

This always baffles me a bit. I owned the 650 and 600 side by side and the difference between them is so minuscule it basically comes down to a slight bass elevation on the 650. The idea that they have these vastly different characteristics just makes no sense to me. That said, I did...

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

I have to admit "everything except sound" kinda made me laugh here. I'm willing to compromise on almost any aspect of a headphone as long as it sounds good. If it looks dumb, isn't super comfortable, is heavy, or lacks features, that's a-okay by me if the music comes out good, but I won't ever...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

There's no such thing as a headphone that's gonna make every single album in every genre sound its best. It's just not possible. The trick is to find one that covers a nice cross section within your tastes where it doesn't lean too far in one direction or another. For me, if about the same...

If we're being honest the only measurement that means anything is the FR curve and that's only a guidepost. I see way too many people making judgments based on that crap. They're trying to convince themselves what the "objective best" is based on all these external criteria and think that it's...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I disagree that the Classic is lacking for melodic genres, personally. The XS is an interesting animal. Its soundstage is GIGANTIC, and it has some good bass presence, but it's very much a HiFiMan product so it's got a treble presentation that was pretty sharp to my ears so I had to send it...

Makes sense! Sorry, it just kinda confused me, I hadn't considered it was a convenience issue LOL

Any reason to specifically want insensitive? That's not something that affects sound quality, just how much power it takes. I don't see any reason to go out of your way to get something that needs more power.

    Grado Fan Club!

The Hemp is, appropriately, a gateway drug into Grado. I was never a huge fan before, but I bought the Hemp solely on the recommendation of @YtseJamer and it's like the headphone equivalent of a warm cup of chai on a chilly day. Whenever I just want to drift off into my music (rock/metal) I...

The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

As I put the AC unit in the window, I find myself looking at closed-backs again. Being that I love my LCD-2 Classic, I'm assuming the 2Closed would be the main pick lol

The 5K is a stunningly good little device. I do not understand how it's as cheap as it is.

Heavy recommend of Oathbreaker and Mol, Deafheaven's older stuff is top tier. I'd also recommend Russian Circles and Bossk for that same style.

Same driver doesn't necessarily mean they sound the same. A lot of Grados use the same driver but changes in the housing and materials can affect the sound significantly.

It's weird because they HAVE done live demos. People have posted on their own accounts about heading to NY and listening to them. Industry professionals HAVE gave testimonials. But it's starting to feel like the only made a small handful of actual products, and that photo they posted showing a...

Went for the LCD-2 Classic because I like that pre-fazor warmth and I have yet to hear a single metal album that they don't do amazingly with. Could there be improvements? Sure, nothing is truly perfect, but outside of saving up for the 3 I'm set. Audeze just nails "impact" for me.

LOL yeah I get a little ranty, sorry. And I agree. If they had some issue, just say so, y'know? I think people would understand far better than being in the dark.

I'd been listening to my LCD-2's pretty much exclusively for the last few months and threw on the Hemps because I haven't in a while and had a moment of "Ahhhhhh that's right..." I swear Grado just has a magic to them. The tuning is made for ears, not measurement devices.
