Have you found a vintage stereo shop up in Seattle? If so..........see if they have a classic unit in good shape. That's what I did to get my old Pioneer TT. What are you going to drive it with?

If you can find a pair nowadays in the classifieds they are well worth it. Still have mine for over 12 years and had them and the Fostex 900 at the same time - so close to each other (no surprise, built by Foster) but I still liked the D7000 better.

That's what I did with my HE-6SE V2 a couple of years ago...............still by far (after over 60 headphones owned/tested/traded) my favorite headphone.

If I remember correctly, Foster made the D7000 so parts should be interchangeable for the most part. Not sure if they made changes when they started making the TH900.

Totally agree...............have had a set since 2012. Had Mark Lawton do his magic, added some Teak cups (wood from SE Asia), a Q French Silk cable and Mark's angled lambskin pads. Will never sell these................and preferred them to the TH-900 which I had at the same time, also fully...

I've got an AU-717 that I use as the amp in a TV system that I use a Yamaha RX=670 for the preamp that is amazing for Blu-Ray's of concert videos..........watched/listened to Rush's Snake and Arrows Blu-Ray recently and was blown away. It feeds a nice pair of Polk Audio 5JR "bookshelf" speakers...

I'd say "close enough". Hard to remember what the bass slam of the OG HE-6 was after a few years of moving on from it due to not trusting HFM to support the drivers, but I do remember the OG HE-6 was unreal for bass slam/low end. The HE-6SE to my ears now is as good as I'd ever want. Hope...

I'm partial to Q French Silk cables mostly because of how supple it is..................have this cable on the HE-6SE, HE-500, LA7000 and Pioneer SE Master.

Still using my D7000's at work regularly..............mine has the Lawton treatments done by Mark, his pads, with deeper than stock Teak cups from a great member and a Q French Silk cable. Have had them almost 10 years now and still rank as my favorite closed back.

I'm using a Q French Silk cable - didn't really notice any sonic changes but it is so supple and lays down so nicely. Have it on four pairs of headphones and love it. On my HE-6SE, HE-500, Denon LA7000 and the Pioneer.

Dekoni for Audeze. I have the HFM version as well but these have larger ear openings which I prefer. Over the past week or so the comfort (which wasn't bad at all to begin with) is getting even better.
