Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

I wouldn't know better SQ as these are the best and pretty much only headphones I have aside from my German Maestro GMP 8.35s that I don't want anymore. Plus, I didn't do a side-by-side A and B from stock pads since it's tedious and I'm lazy, so you're probably way ahead of me on this, not to...

Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

It was a really tight fit, but with enough stretching, you can get them on well enough to where they'll stay. Don't be too afraid to really push on the pads to get them to stretch around the cups.   As far as the sound, I felt it really helped balance out the treble with the rest of the...

Quote: Yep! Wearing 'em right now. It took me about 5 minutes, but in my opinion, it was a 5 minutes very well spent.   https://www.dropbox.com/s/0o7xnx4fsfvxjgx/989_0440.JPG?m

I wear glasses 24/7 and I don't have any problems with the Alpha pads. They're ridiculously comfortable and seem to have improved the sound signature (IMO); you can read my mini-review a little earlier on in this thread.

The Alpha pads really close off the ears; I think they might be of some help. I found them on ebay; I don't know where to find them normally.

I thought you guys might like to see what the Alpha pads look like on the A900x since I posted a mini-review a little earlier. Has to be the biggest pair I've ever owned. https://www.dropbox.com/s/vr8hs3eogem2nua/989_0438.JPG

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II

Had a friend who listened to my A900xs (modded with Mad Dog Alpha Pads). He wowed every few seconds about the clarity of each instrument; it was deeply thrilling to hear someone else appreciate the minute details in instrumental music. The fact that he could detect a difference between what...

Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

I can't remember much about the mids, but I believe the bass didn't change much, if at all; it might be slightly more, but nothing overbearing. As far as treble goes, I'm noticing no lack of clarity -- the violins and cymbals are still quite clean (haven't noticed any sibilance thus far on my...

Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

I found the Mad Dog Alpha pads for pretty cheap, and I have to say, this is quite possibly the best purchase I've made thus far. I think it might've recessed the treble a bit, but my goodness, it feels and sounds wonderful; I've never worn a more comfortable pair (rubber band modded as well; I...

**MrSpeakers Mad Dog: Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Just got the Alpha pads and put them on my ATH-A900x... Wow. They feel -amazing- compared to stock pads. I think they might have recessed the treble a bit, but everything sounds great.   However, I noticed my drivers -and- the pads are angled; is this alright, or should I look into...

So, how are the pads on these? I just ordered a pair, so I'm hoping they'll be pretty comfortable.

    Other pads for A900x

I absolutely love the sound they provide, but my main issue is that there's too much distance between the drivers and my ears which causes there to be that "wearing actual cans over ears" kind of sound. I've heard that a simple (but rather permanent) solution is to bend the metal bands to...

In addition to my previous post, where could I find alternate pads for the A900x besides ebay and amazon?

Audio-Technica ATH-A900X: Impressions, Reviews, Mods, etc.

Are there any pads that don't distance your ears so much from the drivers? I've heard about the A1000 pads or something, but I'd like some suggestions. I just got mine (burned in 100+ hours, used), and they sounds freaking beautiful, but everything sounds better (to me) when I press the cups...

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

Quote: The isolation really is something special; I don't think I've heard any passive isolation (yet) that can match the 8.35Ds.   Riding up all the way to California, it blocked out my sisters and the road pretty well, and I am happy to have purchased it before the ride. Still...

Non-audiophile reactions to high-end headphones Part II

Nobody in my family gets the obsession. I mean, I've only bought 4 pairs so far (A900x on its way), and $202 (GMP 8.35D) was the most I paid, and I tried to relate my interest in headphones with my dad's interest in buying and trading guitar stuff -- some progress is being made. Of course...

    M50 vs A900x (and GMP 8.35D)

Well... My M50s are deteriorating (the pads are cracked as I don't know what and the headband is looking really rough), but the drivers work fine. This wouldn't be a problem if the wiring didn't get screwed up on it due to me accidentally applying force on the sides of it while the plug was...

    Mission : Defeat Zardak

The Panasonic RP-HTF600s were a pretty nice purchase, but I'm pretty sure better can be done; people said that it beat the M50s, but I just wasn't hearing it.   Also, we have similar names, although mine is due to Melee's 4-character limit.

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

Just my laptop and my Rockbox'd Sansa Clip + for my sources. I keep hearing that they sound fine without amplification, and maybe it's just the pads that are killing the deal for me.

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

I gave it some more consideration, and I think I'd be better off just selling these and getting something else. I don't think the neutral signature is for me, even if I do make orchestral. Hearing the music the way it actually sounds seemed nice on paper, but I think I'm gonna roll with...

Any idea where I could find the HM5 pads? I did a little searching, but the headphones were all I found.

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

After reading a bit more, I've seen some other pads get suggested (Beyer DT 770, J$, GM Oval), so perhaps I could give one of those a shot. Really, the lack of soundstage is my only issue with these -- I've found that they're quite detailed, but I really need some space.   If it doesn't...

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

Maybe I'm just used to the coloring of the M50s, but they really do seem to space out the sound better than the German Maestros... I'm listening to .flacs and .wavs through a Sansa clip, and they sounded fine with my M50s, but with the German Maestros, the sound felt like it was a bit closed...

The German Maestro GMP 8.35 D Monitor in the studio... serious about audio, INDEED!!

So, I've been hearing a bit about oval pads and paper and such... I'm just a bit afraid of modding since I've never done it before.   How do I take the ear pads off?   Also, the soundstage seems more closed in compared to my M50s -- does that improve with burn-in/oval pads? I've...

A quick question about sound cards

Alright, I'm currently running Linux (Ubuntu) and I was just wondering...   When I got curious and finally looked up sound cards, a few caught my eye, but I'm a bit confused about something. Are they compatible with Linux? I haven't seen anything on it yet, and I'm fairly stupid when it...
