This is the "usual" single-transformer-all-in-one DAC/Amp/Preamp featuring the ES9018 chip.
Think of it as a balanced Compass 2 which should well compliment the new balanced Mad Dogs!

Pads are amazing. So comfy I bought three pairs for my D2000, Pro900, and Q40.

Bar none the most comfortable headphone pads I have ever used. Putting them on the first time was nearly euphoric coming from headphones with very shallow and hard pads (superlux 66sb(?))

Same here.
Bought an extra pair for my HE-5LE and will probably buy some other for my future headphones.

For those on a budget, the HM5 pads are surprisingly good for the money. They certainly feel much better than the stock Hifiman pads and sound closer to the velours, which I prefer.
They almost feel like real leather but I suppose they cannot be at this price.

By comparison, there's no doubt the Alpha are real lambskin leather! They truly are premium pads: they feel good, smell good and sound good, period!

Together with the Mad Dogs they form the most comfy headphone I owned, bare none (even the DT-880). I sometimes put them on just to feel how comfy they are!
This might sound stupid buy I know I'm not the only one who does that
