    Smyth Research Realiser A16

That's my listing and I have no affiliation with the previous A16 that was on sale. Maybe "opened only to take photos" comment made it look similar. Anyway, feel free to PM with any questions.

    CanJam SoCal 2017 (April 8-9, 2017)

Very interested in this. What kind of speaker system/room will be used for the Realizer demo? Would A16 backers be able to get a copy of their PRIR measurements?

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

Some of us use DSPs and EQs that resample to a higher sample rate, so might as well keep it at "NOS" and not resample it again with the DAC's internal filter. Maybe a future Gungnir can have a NOS mode like Biforst at a max sample rate? This probably won't make much of a difference, given how...

Review: CEntrance DACport Slim DAC/Amp Combo

Something has to provide power for the DAC/amp device, so the other option is the $350 Centrance DACportable, which is battery-powered: http://www.centrance.com/products/dacportable/ EDIT: iPhone 6S already has decent sound quality (relatively to other portable devices), so it takes some...

Review: CEntrance DACport Slim DAC/Amp Combo

It won't work because Apple does not supported USB powered devices on lighting port (you'll get a message like "your device uses too much power"). It might work with a USB regen type device that will provide independent power, not from iPhone, but the regen device I have from Uptone Audio is not...

    SchiitShow 2: This Changes Everything

First affordable one. There is a LIO Headphone Amplifier with all kind of modular options: http://www.vinnierossi.com/lio-headphone-amplifier/ Yes, almost car-priced. :)

Review: CEntrance DACport Slim DAC/Amp Combo

http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/Intro/SQ/VolumeControl.htm If your music playback software can be set for zero-padding to 24-bit, you can get 48db of "bitperfect" digital volume control when playing 16-bit redbook content. That is, only the zero padded bits would be affected by volume...

At which price point do loudspeakers outperform the best headphones?

Depends on your priorities and what you value in sound quality/reproduction. Top of the line headphones rule detail retrieval and do an excellent job to achieve a neutral FR, but no headphone setup can match the soundstage/imaging/etc of even the cheapo Emotiva $300 speakers. Headphones vs...

Matrix X-Sabre DAC review and impression thread

I've upgraded from X-Sabre to Gumby. The Yggy will be an even bigger step-up.

    Popular Classical Music

I enjoy Zimmer soundtracks as well, too bad that "The Dark Knight Rises" hi-res from HDTracks is brickwalled at ~22KHz:

If the new 2-channel amps can take a digital input and skip the "traditional" delta-sigma DAC stage of AVR/Pre/etc, that would be huge. Maybe Schiit's superior alternative to class-D amps, without the downsides of class-D? :)

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

I have it working with an iPhone and iPad, but you should use some kind of a wallwart powered USB hub in between since the Gungnir needs the 5V power on USB. Even if Android does not have the power drain protection like iPhone, the Gungnir will rapidly drain the battery on your phone.

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Wow, measurements confirm that TH-X00 is a nice step up from Denon D5000 and even D7000. After years with D5000, I thought I moved on from these to other closed-back phones, but Fostex won me back. Also, a great complimentary headphone to HD800/S, punchy and more closer to the stage.

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

Lawton Audio makes all kind of cups for Fostex/Denons. Pricey, but supposedly even better than stock since they're somewhat bigger and can be tuned to your liking: http://www.lawtonaudio.com/fostexcustomwoodchambers.html

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

I use Regen + SOtM PCI card for my Gumby. It seems that they're redundant and if I had to choose one, I would probably take the Regen since it gives more flexibility (i.e. I can use Apple's CCK with Regen to connect Gumby to iPhone/iPad). I bought the SOtM card used, but for its retail price you...

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

True, its just when majority of "senders" cannot provide a clean enough power and a stable enough signal for the sensitive DAC, it is the DAC that should be prepared to receive that "crap" and not rely on USB power, hence the "weakest link". For example, the Matrix X-Sabre has a better overall...

    Schiit Gungnir DAC

Looks like powering Gumby is a repeating theme of this thread. Yet, the solution is pretty simple for most, just keep it on. :) The difference of Gumby powered just for a few hours vs. several days is not as big as the difference you get by possibly improving the USB signal before it gets...
