Anyone know a good place to look at headphones in the baltimore area?
oh yeah, tweeter has a good selection of sennheiser stuff. The one in towson is next to a Compusa, Linen's and Things, bank, and CVS...just to help you spot it. Pretty close to the big shopping mall actually.- soupy

Where to test/buy headphones/amps in Japan (Tokyo)
The most obvious place to check out would definitely be the Yodobashi Camera store in Akihabara. They don't have the best prices (pretty much the average price), but they do have a large selection that can be easily demo'd. I believe now they have listening booths with Marantz CD players and a...- soupy

JVC HP-DX1000 Owners Unite!
hmm, how'd I manage to miss this thread?...especially when I was the second one to take the plunge (and the first to get a lemon DX1000) . After having traded them for the W5k's, I kinda miss them now. I always said they had a certain charm to them. Glad to see lots of others are seeing the...- soupy

Emu 0404 $139 + free $100 mic at Musician's Friend
Just ordered one today and they shipped the same day. Credit card was charged $139.99, but the order confirmation e-mail showed "subtotal: $149.99, discount: -10, total: $149.99 (not $139.99)" Guess for those who don't really care about the mic this is still a fairly nice deal.- soupy

Emu 0404 $139 + free $100 mic at Musician's Friend
it seems like they replaced the free gift with an IK Multimedia SampleTank 2 SE Plug-in Sound Module program instead (also an $80 value). I guess if this can speed up orders, what the heck. Buy IK Multimedia SampleTank 2 SE Plug-in Sound Module Musician's Friend Edition at Musician's Friend- soupy

Wooden portable ATH-ESW9 arrived! (with pics)
anyone compare these with the A900's? (and yes, after a one year hiatus from headphones, something has finally caught my attention here...) also, I'll be in Tokyo after new years, where'd you find it for 20,000yen? The big box stores (bic camera/yodobashi) seems to have a mediocre price...- soupy

Audio Technica w1000s vs w5000s
Quote: I finally waffled and cancelled my w1000 order and decided to go with the w5000. I will say with 100% confidence that you did the right thing here (unless you like statues).- soupy

Denon to release Mid/High-End Woodie in Japan
I took one for the team on the dx1000's (actually, I took 2 hits there as the first one was DoA), I'll pass on this one . Now if they manage to drop down to the 300$-range after becoming a domestic model I'll reconsider.- soupy

What headphone would you buy for around $1,000?
as far as headphones that you can order now and receive within a week, I'd buy the W5000's all over again. I've heard much of the lower end STAX rigs and I've decided that it's either the OmegaII's or no stax at all.- soupy

SONY MDR-XD400 users!
for the price that they're going for on ebay (~$50 SHIPPED), I think they're a bargain and a steal. I recall liking them more than the A500, but I'm not that sure anymore. Shouldn't be too dissappointed and it's probably one of the only decent headphones stores like Best Buy sell (though I don't...- soupy

well well, least I know what to buy next the next time I go to Japan . I'm beginning to see a pattern everytime I go there . Glad that I can always count on Audio-Technica on releasing new models on a regular schedule. Keeps things fresh. Would be kind of neat if Sony could reply to this...- soupy

Team College-Fi Post pics of your setup
Quote: Well, I don't know about the Pocari Sweat (tastes like crap IMO, Aquarius is much better, or for a US brand, Propel), but the figures are definitely more prominent than the headphones. I'm on the other side, I think Aquarius tastes like crap , but it's a coke vs. pepsi, sprite...- soupy

HF-1 ethics question!
if you got the money and you're enthusiastic about this hobby, go ahead and pick one up. I wrote about it on my blog as well and managed to convince someone like you (a non-headfier but had a Grado SR60) on IRC to save up for the second run of these. In the end it only helps this forum.
