Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution
I have recently had chance to have a good long weekend listening session to the Abyss + Formula S stack and I was very nicely surprised by just how good it sounds. Yes there was a difference between my usual rig however for the money there is no beating the Formula S Stack, it will easily drive...- isquirrel

Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A
On the DAC/Pre Amp side anything over 95dB is too hot for the HSA's input. So I typically run them at 90dB on the DAC and at around 70 on the volume control of the HSA. I would like to play with Roon's EQ to see what happens if I increase the sub 50Hz region by +2dB or so. I will need to cut...- isquirrel

Yes it will be fun, unfortunately I don't think I could get away with "borrowing" the Boulder, it also weighs 200KG's. I have had the SR1-a's and HSA on 24/7 burn in and they have improved an incredible amount. I now understand what reviewers have said by its not easy going back to any other...- isquirrel

I cannot comment on this as I have not heard the Schiit Amp. What is clearly apparent is that the SQ is highly influent by the quality of the Amp connected to the Ribbon Interface box. Over the weekend I will be trying out the Interface box plugged into a Boulder 3060 Stereo amp.- isquirrel

Sorted the issue out with excellent support from Danny @ Raal Requiste. I took off the top cover and during shipping a lead running out of the Transformer had dislodged itself. The new amp design does away with a lot of these blocks, so I can't see this as being an issue again.- isquirrel

I have tried using another 4 pion cable for the right hand front socket for normal headphones. No sound there either. Must be an issue with the HSA- isquirrel

Raal Ribbon Headphones - SRH1A
I have just received today my SR1-a and HSA amplifier. I have it all connected up but no sound. I cannot find a manual or setup guide for the HSA. If anyone has a HSA I would really appreciate some help. I am using XLR's and have the Headphone hooked up with the supplied cable. There are 2...- isquirrel

Audeze LCD-4
The Abyss used to have what could be described as a U shaped sound, however the newer versions do not have that and is a must listen to, you are simply not hearing all of your music the way it is intended if you are not listening to an Abyss.- isquirrel

Audeze LCD-4
I have the LCD-3F, 4 100ohm, 4Z, MX4 and the newly realised LCD-24 so you could say I am a fan of the Audeze house sound. I also have the Abyss Phi TC. Without a doubt the best sound of the Audeze range is the LCD-24, I use a MSB Reference Headphone Amp with twin 3 Pin XLR outputs and a custom...- isquirrel

Woo's New Flagship WA33
Ah now that's a PM discussion based on other people's feedback, not sure if even appropriate that I even speculate, its the old story if I haven't heard it myself, then I probably shouldn't be dishing out opinions about it. PM me and we can do the loop.- isquirrel

Woo's New Flagship WA33
That is not correct sorry. Woo Audio's WA 33 Elite does not use JPS wiring. Only the JPS version does. The JPS versions also comes with a recommended upgrade of the KR 2A3 HP tubes which JPS Labs helped develop with KR, in fact it was more a case of built to order spec. JPS Labs did the...- isquirrel

Kennerton ODIN, MAGISTER, VALI, Magni, Gjallarhorn, Rögnir, Thridi, Wodan, Thekk, and Thror Discussion.
That's is an interesting but far reaching question. Can you narrow your question down to a more specific subject. For example: Do you derive greater listening pleasure from your HP's or Loudspeaker system?- isquirrel

Thank you for your compliment. That room took me three years in total to get right. As this is a Headphone community I will spare you all with the details, suffice to say the biggest single improvements were the removal of the fireplace on the right hand side and building extensive bass traps on...- isquirrel

Hmm, that's my room and my Headphones, red pair of Thror's. I gave Nirvana Sound permission to use the photo as I also work with them. Funny how it's made its way here. The speakers are Wilson Alexandria's which I replaced with a blue pair of V2's later. Glad you like the room Eric65.- isquirrel

My pair of Kennerton Thror's took over 800 hours to really sound their best. I still think they have more in them. The sound changed radically around the 500 hour mark. They have almost Abyss level bass, however the most interesting aspect of them is the musicality. I have not heard a Headphone...- isquirrel

Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread
Lol, that has been my findings as well, I prefer the LCD-24 over the 4 and 4Z. My top three Headphones are: 1. Abyss Phi TC 2. Kennerton Thror with special Stabilised Karelian Birch - Photo below 3. Hi-FiMan Susvara (sounds great, built like a toy) 4. LCD-24- isquirrel

Audeze LCD-4z - Impressions Thread
That has also been my experience, I 1st started out in Head-Fi with an Audeze LCD-X, loved it and have a lot of Audeze HP's, however the Abyss Phi TC is on a completely different level IMHO. The Kennerton Thror took me by total surprise for it too is a very good HP and well worth an extended listen.- isquirrel
