AKG K702 Amp that doesnt put the headphones to shame.
If you don't want to break the bank and want some have some fun rolling opamps, try Firestone Audio a try. I've used a Cute Beyond with the OPA627 for awhile with my K701's. Warmth and soundstage is retained and actually gives a little better midrange punch too.- vdub

Some OVERRATED High End Gear.
Going back to the beginning of the thread.... I have to defend Bel Canto some. I own both the S300iu and DAC 2.5 and couldn't be happier. Of course its not the most uber-perfect rig that everyone thinks that theirs is, but it works for me. The S300iu runs a pair of paradigm studio 60s and love...- vdub

Best amp for K701 - my wallet is generous.
I would try the Burson HA160, warm and detailed, just takes awhile to warm up for a solid state. Once it does, that combo can really sing. If you want to go the tube route, try a Woo Audio WA6. Both amps have plenty of power to drive those hungry K701s.- vdub

Grado Diminishing Returns
I have personally owned 4 grados to date, sr60, sr80, sr325i, and rs1i. Ive heard the entire lineup and if you wanna take the plunge, I would recommend the sr225i. They have all the grado "punch" but without the hefty price tag. If you wanna be "on stage" with the performers, just avoid the...- vdub

Perfect Wave DAC Owner Unite
You might want look at Wavelength Audio's lineup. I've heard the crimson and it was flawless. Every DAC they produce is asynchronous, so it's theoretically jitter free. For $2k, its a great choice. I use a PS Audio DLiii and I've had no issues and sounds great. You even save some cash because...- vdub

Upgrading Grado SR80 cables
I just recabled my sr80i with 22 ga. jumper wire from dh labs. Just braided it up, terminated, and installed. Sounds great too. For $30 bucks it was a great improvement, especially after 50 hours or so.- vdub

Which bands are still recording analog?
Cmon guys, you can't forget about the White Stripes. Jack White even does his own tube rolling in the studio. -
My mind is starting to melt.
I would take a look at the PS Audio DL3 dac. Has USB, optical, and coaxial inputs. Upsamples to 96 and 192, fully balanced (even has xlr outputs), and even sounded better than a McIntosh dac used in a $150k 2 channel setup and that dac was $4k! I love mine. U can pick one up for $695.- vdub

Can't decide on a new amp for PS1000, HELP!
As I am impatiently waiting on the arrival of my PS1000s, I'm looking for a new amp. Currently I have a lowly little Creek OBH11 and I think its time for an upgrade. I've narrowed it down to two, either a Woo Audio WA2 or a Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 with the upgraded PSU. But by all means, give...- vdub

AKG K701 break in period
Just get a burn-in disc like Isotek or something and let them play for 350-450hrs. Music can't burn in equipment like a purposely made disc.- vdub

do you hear hum noise on your WA5 from either high or low output headphone jack
Try a decent power conditioner. I have a Furman unit and the noise floor is non-existent. Oh yeah, you need more burn in time, don't use cheap power cable, and make sure your connetions on the tubes are clean.- vdub

Ordered HD800/PS1000 // Interest in HD800/PS1000 // Wait and see
My PS1000's will be in this week. I tend to love the grado house sound. I've owned the HD650's and 600's and sold them both.- vdub

Any opinions on the Sony MDR-V700DJ?
I own a set of V700DJs and would not recommend them unless you really like bass. personally I think the koss portapros would be a better choice for the money. Second of all, if you find a pair for 50 bucks they are used or a chinese knock-off.- vdub

Are there any full-size that are considered portable?
If you're on a budget, I would recommend the Sony MDR-V500 or 700's. They have really strong bass, ok midrange, and ok treble. They're meant for DJ's, so they are sealed really well. You can pick up either pair for less than $100.- vdub

Organizing all that music. How?!?!
I would highly recommend a program called Tune-Up companion. Its a iTunes add-on for 30 dollars. Load up the songs and it will search gracenote and update all of the id3 tags automatically. I then let iTunes organize my library. It's simple, painless and takes alot less time.- vdub
