M-Audio BX5 D2 (Next-Generation 70-Watt Bi-Amplified Studio Monitors)
I have these. The TL;DR is that they're fantastic studio monitors, but aren't as good for casual listening. Let me know if you have more specific questions for me on the topic.- Ebonyks

Myth or Not? "Cables sound different"
Anyone who doesn't believe in cables just hasn't heard the right ones, IMHO. I'll be the first to admit that the cable industry is filled with plenty of snake oil and bad gimmicks, however, there's no doubt in my mind that cables influence the sound of a system- Ebonyks

Reccomendations for montreal?
My dad and i have been spending the last few days in montreal, and so far, other than the film festival going on right now, haven't really found too much that's intresting to do. Anyone here have some reccomendations of things to liven up our vacation, and let us spend less time in the internet...- Ebonyks

Looking for a sub 150 dollar amp to pair with HD-580's
So, i return after a long hiatus from head-fi. Long story short, a friend of mine is looking into the hobby, and has already purchased himself a pair of HD-580's. I've fallen out of the loop when it comes to the flavor of the month amplifiers, and any help in finding a reliable, non battery...- Ebonyks

Top 2006 albums
Here's my top 10 for 2006, not a great year in music, but as always, there were some gems for anyone with the patience to dig for them. Not to be pretentious, but i suspect a majority of this list runs more towards obscure indie circles than most head-fi'ers are famliar with. I would be amazed... -

Bubblegum suggestions.
Quote: This steps out of the mainstream, but The Go! Team has got to have some of the catchiest music I've ever heard. Their Thunder Lightning Strike album is probably the most horribly recorded disk I have in my collection, but it's just so damn addicting and poppy I can't even take it... -
Smoking in Pubs/Bars Yes or No?
I say freedom. The public mandate of how private busniess can operate regarding the consumption of tobacco within their instution strikes me as ludicrous. The idea of people being offended by the health risk of smoking while they're in a bar strikes me as humorous. It's a bar! If you're really...- Ebonyks

which "Low" album to get next...
"things we lost in the fire" is the next logical low album to persue. It's not the same upfront, aggressive rock sound of the great destroyer, more akin to the slower other work of theirs you have. However, it's their most focused single effort, and the first half flows by like an angel's song... -
February Cincinnati meet?
Wow, this thread is really disheartening to see. A member, upon running his privately funded and operated meeting, who simply wanted to regulate his own function, did not want to encourange vendor participation. Instead of this simply flowing, the vendor in question takes it all personally...- Ebonyks

Modern rock so bad, kids turning to "classic rock"...

Broken Social Scene.
If you don't like the band, why are you stressing yourself out trying to get into them? Doing that, or pretending to like them, would make you a poser, which is the antithesis of what the entire indie music scene is about. btw, a scenester is a generally deragatory term. -

HD 650 has been degraded from 5.0 tp 4.5 by headroom, why?
Oh no! An insignificant clarification on a completely esoteric scale designed to objectively grade a purely subjective concept of the psychological reaction to various sonic equlibrium variations has been made! Woe to the HD-650 owners of the world, as tyll has robbed you of your sonic utopia...- Ebonyks

Modding a receiver to use nice IEC power cords?
Quote: I've seen an adapter online that has a IEC socket on one end and screw terminals on the other which connects to the cut ends of a non-removable power cord from your component. This precludes the need to cut the case and install an integrated IEC socket. Unfortunately, I can't...- Ebonyks
