iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

Is there a planned date for the manifestation of this declaration? "We are currently in the process of doing the work on our end to update our system to accommodate the switch from Tidal MQA to Tidal Max"
I remember that Tidal start offering Tidal Max instead of MQA since August of 2023....

we are almost a year after that and we still can't use the full potential of the streamer because of an update. I think that roon users can enjoy the hi res tidal max tier

but for the price of roon in a year I can buy new streamer

this takes too long and considering that zen stream its not without bugs and problems....it is kinda disappointing.

There was a planned date, but that has passed best I can say is this is there were a few changes with Tidal itself that set things back not only for us but for others as well.

Our intention is to deliver this as soon as possible, (I myself am looking forward to it as well). I can assure you I am asking about progress on this every few days. The best info I can give ATM is this update was due to arrive approx a week ago so I would think we are almost there (with the delay)

We appreciate everyone's patience on this and are working to get this delivered ASAP.

Cheers!!

Hello,

So I’ve had for a few days the Ifi Zen Stream to try on a 272 Naim (streamer, dac, preampli) with its XPSDR power supply and ATC 40A, first with its original ipower power supply, then with the Power X and now with the Power Elite, in SPDIF mode 5 and Qobuz via Mconnect. Suffice to say, the Elite is the best and by far, with Zen the sound is very analog, fluid (the voices are sublime) while being dynamic when necessary.
Excellent together, it easily replaces the streamer 272 which begins to date (2015).
I would just like there to be a dimmer for both LEDs...

The button on the right has a dual function, a quick press turns the LED indicators on and off, just don't hold it! That is for hotspot mode!

Cheers!!

I am told we are getting closer, I hate saying that TBH as I have been here before, and I also don't like to give excuses but the changes at Tidal in aspects other than just FLAC MQA have made things a bit maddening for lots of folks, although they may not admit it I will...

Hopefully in a few weeks this will all pass...

Thanks for the patience as always...

Cheers!!

I tire of ads pretty quickly and $7 isn’t the end of the world.

I also logged a case with Tidal directly since it seems more likely the issue is in their app - given mconnect plays the same playlists without any problems.

Stay tuned!

PS: Nothings ever perfect but striving for that is a good way to deliver excellence!

FYI to close the loop on this Tidal declined that any fix was necessary in their end and suggested I take the issue up with ifi. Not surprised in this despite multiple 3rd party apps including Roon and mconnect handling the same playlists issue free.

Initially I began thinking I should go the Roon path and had fun getting it up and running in a fairly stable manner in my network. I even reinvigorated an old project to rip all my cds that are sitting idle for a long time now to take advantage of roons features.

But in the end I couldn’t really justify the recurring cost especially given I can only link one Tidal account/profile since I have 4 tidal profiles in m household.

Instead I’m now looking at JPlay which is doing a great job so far for me and I plan to stand up Plex instance to serve up my ripped cds.

I know I am broken record but I cannot wait to Dump Tidal Connect. I just spent 3 weeks sending Tidal every other day updates (crash reports) that were not happening before this MQA change over. As per usual not their fault. And it may not be but they run this playbook of fixes which are essentially updates and reboots. All done before as been down this road. And same answer-"We do not know. Ask someone else." I am sure Qobuz Connect will not be magic but I would like to get out of this as soon as possible!

The problem with TIDAL is likely that the Zen Stream software is based on a long-discontinued version of Volumio, which itself is based on a version of Debian that has long expired. Any versions of the TIDAL software are going to have been designed for more recent OSes, so iFi are stuck trying to make an unsupported OS work with the software.

And yet some have no problems at all, while you may be correct with what you are saying it's far from the main cause as many many users have no such issues.

Just saying...

Cheers!!

I wasn't talking about users. I was referring to the software update delays.
