I just purchased my zune from ebay and I plan on buying the er-4s when I sell some of my home setup.

Was wonderin if it sounded decent unamped or does it really need one to shine. My current setup is in my sig and I really enjoy clarity, detail, and soundstage over bass.

It won't sound bad without an amp, but the bass just won't be there. Plus everything else will suffer some, but nothing horrific. I wouldn't worry, but I would plan on eventually getting an amp.

if you allready bought the ER4S, then as my collage here commented, the sound will be there, just weak and flat,

if you havent bought yet, you can get the lower impedance ER4P,

the thing is I plan to buy a sm4 but I heard about the wait times on those.

Bu the ER4P, and later get a P-S adapter. So, by the time you'll get the Supermicro, you'll have the ER4S.
Mind also that, out of the Zune, the ER4P need to be equalized to sound good.
