i was really wondering why lucky said the zune supports 480p, when i haven't seen that anywhere.

LOL. but when its time to compare screen size and resolution guess what the iTouch isn't a flash player anymore...and it goes back to compete with the flagship Zune 80 as some Apple proponents call the iTouch the flagship iPod.

Wow! 30 hours battery for audio....so where is the 80GB classic...owned with its punny 2.5inch screen. Awaiting the reviews !!!!

yeah, you're right. microsoft really isn't offering a model to compete with the touch. even when looking at the screen size and resolution, the ipod touch is still a flash player.

good news on the battery life. i wonder how it will test.

Can you stop hijacking the thread ?
No need to post battery life from iPods here.

But I wonder how do you test video with WMA tracks...LOL

It's 480 something. I couldn't remember if it was i or p at the time.

And here's the article that says that it's interlaced.
Mea culpa.

Is it November yet?

Anyone know about what time reviews and hands on articles will start flying around? I want to get a Zune 80 on day one but not if I can't read all about it first.

We're having an argument over at Gizmodo right now. I find this highly amusing. Head-fi'ers without boundaries. Hahhahaha.

I don't see how the iPod Classic could be called better than the Zune. To me the iPod looks beat in every category.

Nor do I, the new firmware on the iPods is *****. Although the new Zune firmware hasn't been released yet, time will tell.

storage capacity
battery life (we'll see how it fares in testing, but the 160GB classic is still better)
size (getting closer)
UMS hard drive
gapless
video content (via itunes store)
calendar, contacts, clock, games
linux and os x support

the ipod still has a few nice things, and the zune has a bigger screen, better gui, fm radio, and wireless. i'm glad they caught up to the ipod in terms of format support (h.264 and mpeg natively, lossless) and are supporting podcast syncing in the software, but i don't think the zune has the ipod beat overall for me. not everyone demands the same things from a player, though.

Tom, I'm with you! I mean seriously, I wouldn't call myself a Zune fanboy, or an apple hater, I just choose what I think suits me the best. For me, the zune was a winner (especially in the SQ realm). I think the fact that I don't need an amp with my atrio m5s to get the best out of the zune is completely awesome, and the way it should be. I can understand why people maybe weren't happy with the last zune (ie. software, battery life, firmware updates, or lack there of...), but we must remember that it's all about the music. In my opinion, the zune has much better SQ than the ipod. And on that note I really don't understand why a device made to play MUSIC primarily wouldn't sound good. People have mentioned that the new zune still has the resolution as the old zune and thus won't be any better for videos....WHO CARES? Seriously, if we really wanted to watch a movie and enjoy it we'd use our laptops, our TVs or we'd just go to a movie theater. Even though the zune and the iPod have movie capability I'd still consider it a secondary function, since the reason we're all really buying these are for the music. And now since there's a new Zune that offers a slimmer form factor, larger screen, overhauled software, free bundled premium earphones, FM radio, wireless, hopefully the same SQ, and roughly the same battery life as the ipod, I really can't see why any logical person wouldn't choose the Zune 80 over the iPod classic.

I think what it comes down to is brand loyalty. If the iPod has worked great for you...fine stick with that. If the Zune works for you, stick with that. But for people who have owned neither in the past, I really don't understand why they'd pay the same price for the iPod classic, which on paper at least appears to be a sub par player when compared to the Zune 80. Clearly it's just my opinion, but I'd like to think that this opinion represents some logic and common sense.
