Zune 2.5 update brings TV downloads, Zune Card sharing - Engadget


"Microsoft has quite a bit in store for the Zune faithful with its new Zune version 2.5 software update. The high points are the new Zune Card integration and the addition of TV show downloads on Zune Marketplace, but much-requested features like gapless playback, improved syncing controls, meta data editing, auto playlists and other tweaks have also been included."

is this also a firmware update? gapless on the zune or gapless in zune player for windows?

very nice. i am so glad to see other players incorporate gapless. now if only there were a linux or osx version of the software! i would love a zune, though not the big one. the slim flash one is quite sexy!

I think the gapless playback means a lot of head-fiers are going to buy a Zune.

This is great news.

Yeah, I can confirm that the 30gb has gapless. Smooth.

Now I just want my Cowon D2 to have gapless, and I'll be happy.

d2 wont get gapless until it has rockbox. you really need good programming skills to pull that off and that is not what cowon have. rockbox will make us all happy with d2 and meizu m6.

true. it has good sq but so too do many players. but the looks are definately quite nice. at least the new ones that are not so large. im a macrumors guy so, me liking the zune is really... well it feels good.

i hope many other manufacturers are able to pull firmware that can manage gapless. that is great

Dangit. It still can't play lossless files except Windows lossless

well what other lossless files are there? doesn't it play wav? surely it plays wav.

but all other lossless are either proprietary (wma lossless, apple lossless, atrac lossless) and then there are the open source engines. i cannot imagine microsoft ever supporting them. never.

I don't see wav in the tech specs. If it was there I would've gotten the Zune over the iPod ages ago. Especially now since they updated it with gapless.

The Zune tech specs do not claim WAV playback.
