If it’s that important, remaining unencumbered might be a better choice for a number of reasons. As many as your pocketbook, and your significant other will allow.

I tell my therapist that my girlfriend has an addiction to overpriced French handbags in order to not feel so guilty about the headphones...After so many answers, at least I know that I can tell my therapist I'm not alone on this ..

Sports cars, watches, French wine, top tier audio gear... what else does a man need to be happy?
A cat, a motorcycle, and whiskySports cars, watches, French wine, top tier audio gear... what else does a man need to be happy?
That's like asking Jay Leno why he owns so many cars; after all, he can only drive one at a time! How many headphones does a man need?

True love.
A corollary: at what point does a “hobby” become a “problem?”How many headphones does a man need?

Oh i think most of us here have crossed that boundary long ago. After selling organs and body parts I've finally admitted I "might" have a problem.A corollary: at what point does a “hobby” become a “problem?”

Yesterday I said I quit and here I am today, ready to buy a new flamboyant tube amp and cool cablesA corollary: at what point does a “hobby” become a “problem?”
I copied this here from the first 'addiction' page that came up in google (the bits in italic).A corollary: at what point does a “hobby” become a “problem?”
Behavioural and social signs of addiction:
- Secretive or dishonest behaviour (Secret purchases? Lower value declared to wife?)
- Poor performance and/or attendance at work or school (Late night listening/lack of sleep affecting your performance at work?)
- Withdrawing from responsibility and socialising (Using 'other' funds to spend on audio? Saying no for a dinner invitation to test your new headphones instead?)
- Isolation (Inevitably, but how much of it?)
- Losing interest in activities, hobbies or events that were once important to you (Do you still exercise and try to be active?)
- Continuing to use the substance, or engage in certain behaviours, despite the negative consequences that these cause (Have you identified any negative consequences?)
- Trying but failing to reduce or stop misusing a substance, or engaging in certain behaviours (Successfully downgraded after an overspending frenzy and now you spent twice as much than before?)
- Taking risks - these might be legally, financially, in relationships and with your physical and mental health (No need for further explanation.)
Oh god. I match all of themI copied this here from the first 'addiction' page that came up in google (the bits in italic).

Hello. My name is Gumby and....I have a headphone addiction....I think, all of us match at least a few.
HP junkies beware, the temptation is strong at CanJams, and the ZMF room makes it especially difficult to resist purchasing one. They also bring a lot of nice gear, cables, pads and etc so there are good reasons to visit
Almost bought a Caldera at the 2023 show but glad I waited later for one of the LTD ashes. The 2024 show in NYC had some natural Limba Bokehs and just too pretty to leave without one.
