ZMF Atrium - new open-back co-flagship

Zach mentioned way back that on the Atrium specifically there would be a lot of conflicting reports on how the various pads interact with each user.

How one person hears a specific pad might not align with what someone else is hearing on the same pad.
YMMV as always. I love the BE2 but they don't fit my ears right. My ears are too big and they get hot after about 10 minutes of listening. I have only tried the Eikon Suedes, Universe Lambskin Perfs and the BE2 Lambskin Perfs. For me the Universe win solely on fit and keeping the sound from getting a bit too mid bassy. I don't tend to like the Suede's on any ZMF, too warm for me and I feel it slows down the sound a smidge. The BE2's open up the upper midrange and lower treble, which I quite like, but unfortunately my gigantic ears will have none of it.

Today is the first time I have listened to the Atrium in about a week. Oh, did I miss them. I missed the way they sound with acoustic music, and I am addicted to the way they image.

Something interesting I’ve noticed about pads on the atrium is the way they affect the stage has a few different variables. Some pads have more intimate presentation of instruments/vocals but a larger room sound, while others are the opposite. According to my observations:
Be2 have the most intimate presentation of instruments but the most spacious room
Universe are in the middle, medium room medium intimacy
Auteur has the widest overall stage, least intimate, but the room seems the smallest relatively
Curious to hear others thoughts

Interesting observations. Love how much subjectivity and sound tailoring happens with pads on their headphones.

I will try to hear for what you are expressing.

I haven't listened to the Atrium's in over a month! Been too busy listening to the Auteur Classic and Caldera.

I know, woe is me...

Looking forward to hearing the Caldera. Soon enough! I enjoyed the Classic too…

How do you like the Caldera?

It's what you'd expect from a ground up ZMF planar, but with an even more impressive top end. It feels almost like a planar/dynamic driver hybrid. Looking forward to some more time with it and trying some of the thinner cowhide pads.

This thread is a good reminder that I need to try the BE2 pads at some point. I have the Universal and Verite pads, but never tried the BE2 (or at least I don't remember trying them).

These are my favorite pads as well and have been living on my Atriums for about a month straight now. In my ears, they just make the Atriums so much more lively and punchy (which I prefer).

I bought Atrium with lambskin be2s pads but I installed them on my Verite Open !

Yeah, I have VO and Atrium so I'll try them on both at some point as well. I went back to the Verite pads from the Universals on my VO this week and prefer them (even though I prefer the fit and feel of the Universals, so the BE2 might be a good compromise.

The BE2 lambskin pads are my pad of choice on the VO. I have yet to try them on the Atriums. Interestingly enough I also like the BE2 pads on the Aeolus. It's my second favorite pad on the Aeolus behind the OG Aeolus pad.

Thanks for some initial impressions. I will have the ability to hear one soon. Until then... Atrium, OG, Radiante 1706 and 4z for me. 1st world problems!

They are awesome pads for smaller ears. I wish I could use them comfortably.

Has anyone tried the ZMF Oval Pads on their Atrium? I know they're oval but the description says, "Try them on ZMFs or your favorite headphone....".

Looking at thei diameter of 114.3mm does seem like they should fit on the Atrium fairly nicely, and they're the tallest pads at 1.5 inches, compared to 1inch and lower across Autuer, Universe, Eikon, and Verite. Id imagine this may open up the sound a bit, and I gotta say, oval pads are usually very comfortable.

Are the ovals the Ori pads?
