anyone ever tried using zinc-air batteries for their mini amps.....

amp designs that use 2 9v (about 600mAh for alkaline energizer brand, 18v in series) can be achieved with 12-13 1.4 270mAh Zinc-Air batteries (16.8-18.2v in series)

plus with 12 pieces custom shape battery holders could be made to fill the spaces around the amp components

these for example:

here is one brand that has a 1.4 v with 1050mAh and 4 mA output

I stumbled upon these in the Mouser catalog when searching for a power source for one of my mini amps. I think that they would work very well, though I have not tried them. Next time I order from Mouser, I'll probably pick up a card or two of them (the 610mAh ones) for testing in my amp.

other than voltage ... what else should you consider when choosing a source

i know mAh determines how long the batteries are going to last..... any other specs.... i've head something about a C rate .. whats that and is it important?

The C refers to how fast you can charge (and discharge?) the batteries. 1C for a 600mAh battery means you're charging at 600mA, and it will be charged in an hour. 0.1C=10hrs, etc. A low rate, less than 0.1C, can be used as a trickle charge. You can leave it hooked up for a long time with very little damage to the batteries.

At least, I believe that's true for NiMH/NiCd batteries. Different types charge differently.
