Folks, everyone knows that I love my Zhaolu and am anticipating the 2.0 with as much excitement as anyone but I have to go along with Iron Dreamer's sentiment here. With all due respect to chesebert, and I mean that sincerely as I really like his posts, I think we should be careful here or this is going to turn into something comical. chesebert has obviously been listening to his 2.0 in very unordinary circumstances, away from home, at a local audio shop, in a hotel, with what cans we don't know, and a judgement has been made that it sounds better than a G08?

I mean, heh, heh, I admire the balls, and I am sure there's a good dose of excitement there, and again I really admire chesebert, but it's kind of...funny. I'm REALLY glad to hear you like it and hope it's half as good as you say. I just don't want this thing to lose credibility and become comical and not to mention cause fueds and wars. He sure is excited though, isn't he! Can't wait to hear it myself.

When I prefer something over another I find it to be better. Why? Better is a subjective term. One could argue they find something "technically superior" but in the end prefer something else but to me that means they find it to be better, IMO. What are you all in a huff about? I'm just saying I would hate for this thing to get wierd like it did with the Lavry Black/DAC 1 comparisons, people started viewing the Zhaolu fans as comical. Not to discredit that review, which was a very good comparison, but people just can't seem to believe this DAC can sound as good as it does given the price. I'm with a ya bro, but people are going to question some things is all I am saying.

it's strange when we get pissy at folks that are excited about their new gear, taking that as if it's a perfect unbiased review. he's got some new goodies and he's loving it. super cool.

when you come to think about it "audio" reviews are pretty damn squirely. we're so busy trying to decide "which is best", and i think we'd all sleep better at night if we realized just how different each one of us is, our prefferences, even our own hearing.

i'm looking forward to getting a zhaolu because there is no way i could afford something like a benchmark in the $1000 range. the ability for me to have an integrated discreet (upgraded) headamp, and apparently excellent dac for such a low pricepoint is just really cool. i'll be honest, i could care less whether it's better or worse than the lavry, benchmark, whatever. i'm just glad we're able to get all this wild chinese goodness

uh...the better than G08 thing...I guess I would like to reserve that judgement until I am at the next meet ...at a much much quieter place and spend atleast 30 min A/B both. But at the fairly nosiy mall where I was listening to G08 I do feel that at the time, Zhaolu sounds just as good as G08.

You were using only the Pimeta and KSC75 for both G08 and Zhaolu, correct?

How would one select either preamp out, or which input goes to the headphone out?

I agree. This will be my first external DAC, and I just want to get the most for my $. If I later hear the Lavry, and think that it sounds better, then ok. I just hope it's not sounding 4x better! (whatever that means) I want a good price/performance ratio. I guess it makes sense that I end up deciding on a product from a country whose market base doesn't have tons of $.

Having said that, I do believe it is possible to surpass the performance of much more expensive equipment, and China is just the right country for that to be happening.

Go China. Let the marketing revolution begin!
