I picked up an extremely clean example of the above radio (all transistors). Since it use to be owned by an smoker I spent a couple of ours cleaning the amp inside and out. Then I cleaned and lubricated the pots, as well as cleaning the variable cap (tuning). At the time I did not have compresed air and all I had was tuner cleaner, and in some of the band there is still a bit of "scratchiness".

So the question is how to better clean the variable cap so when I rotate the tuning knob I do not hear the scratchiness. Later today I will go and get compressed air to assit in the cleaning but I want to make sure I am not missing something.

I will also post some pics of the radio which as I wrote earlier it looks very nice. Thanks.

You really don't want to mess with the tuning cap.
As i remember it is 5 different sections all on the same shaft
and if you bend any of the plates you are going to put the
whole front end out of tune, and then you are going to need
specialized tools to re-align the front end. Blow it clean with
some spray air, but otherwise leave it alone.

Thanks, that is all I dare do but I am glad to know what I could mess up with my stupidity.
