I disagree. I did a back and forth comparison between the two, and I found the PK2 to be clearer in the mids and highs. Not a dramatic difference, but better. I also found the bass (which some have said is better on the PK3) to be indistinguishable.
I believe the PK2s do have better mids and highs, but they were just clearly lacking in the bass. The PK3 presents a more balanced sound and is more inclusive in the set of users that it satisfies.
To my ears PK3 is too bright, I have to EQ it to make the bass comes out. I guess I'm just intolerant to highs; that's why finally I take the plunge towards HD600. Dark, laidback sound ftw.
I own both and enjoy both and don't amp either one. IMHO the PK3 is the better bang for your $$ plus more fun to listen to. But the PK2 delivers more accurate tone. I pull out the PK3s for classic rock and the PK2 for classical and jazz.
