I have been a GPM (Google Play Music) subscriber for a while, and have been fairly happy with the audio quality.(I actually found it to be better than Spotify, but that a couple years ago, last I tested, and I have heard Spotify has improved a lot.)

I was wondering if the new You Tube Music app sending the same audio streams that GPM does, or at least similar quality? Or is it just crappy rips from the videos?

No, only 128kbps at the moment. Will rise to 256kbps sometime next year. I'm still stuck as to what service I'll stick with between GPM+YouTube Music and Spotify.
