Just wondering if there is a solution to isolating system sounds from music playback? I find it very irritating to have a Windows alert while listening to music at high volumes. Do better sound cards make a provision for this (I'm using onbaord sound right now).

And yes, I have tried tweaking my WAV volume separately.

Go into Control Panel, and enter the "Sounds and Devices". The click on the "Sounds" tab. In the pull-down box under "Sound schemes", select "No sounds" and click apply. That disables all the Windows sounds.

Well, that's pretty much a stop gap isn't it? I guess I want my cake and eat it too, that is, I don't want to suppress all system sounds, just while I'm using my headphones.

I knew I was asking for too much.

Well, you can set your computer to use asio output when you listen to music. When I use asio all I hear is the music, but I have to switch it back to "default" when I'm done otherwise hear nothing that isn't playing through foobar.

Sounds like Vista is for you.

The new mixer lets you set the relative volume of the system sounds in relation to other applications.

If you've got two soundcards you can do that (music plays on one and system sounds on the other).

Kernel streaming should also do the job (system sounds would stop playing while music is on or paused).
