Just thought I'd start a separate thread on this. I have been an infrequent listening to jazz over the years. My musical tastes run to blues (electric and acoustic) and classic rock. However, my father is a huge jazz fan and over the years has given me a few CDs, and I've others I've purchased myself. I like the Kansas City jazz, late 30s early 40s the best, so far. Count Basie, Jay McShann. Not really an "acid" jazz fan.

I just picked up a couple Count Basie CDs from yourmusic.com, but was wondering what other jazz titles folks would recommend for relative jazz newbie? Thanks!!

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Hum
Thelonious Monk Quartet w/ John Coltrane - At Carngie Hall
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

That's a good, small start. There's lot's more where that came from.

Do an advanced search for RVG as the label. Buy all of those.

All Miles. All Trane. All Monk. All Jarrett (not to be confused with Al Jarreau

). All Mingus. All good.

Well, I've looked at can't find an advanced search feature. What am I missing?

BTW, I've got to confess that dissonance is not my thing.

I forgot yourmusic.com doesnt have the advanced search option. Go to bmgmusicservice.com and advance search there, they have the exact same catalog (for all intents and purposes.)
