was talkin' with a guy in another thread and was forced to dwell on my inability to pare lists of albums down to the essentials. Got me thinkin'.
OK guys! Ship's sinking and you only have a few seconds to shove a handful of CDs down the fronta your pants before it's off to the lifeboat. What 5 do you grab? Remember, the only thing between now and your slow, inevitable acquiescence to Forever on a deserted rock somewhere are THESE 5 CDs, probably a few coconuts, and maybe some Gilligan styled antics. There is presumably a boombox on our desert isle, coconut style.
aaaanyways:
1. Beethoven. The Ninth
2. The Flaming Lips. The Soft Bulletin
3. Radiohead. OK Computer
4. Macross Plus. OST I
5. Nirvana. Unplugged
Decided I'd go with the albums that I really managed to build up some obsession over in my youth though there are more than what's on this list. So dang hard! It is possible I'd drown trying to decide between Yoshimi and Soft Bulletin. Shoulda worn baggier pants, curse my fat ass! Anyways, Yoshimi first stole my heart, but I came to recognize Soft Bulletin as its superior and so I've decided in advance should the situation ever arise, I will err on its side. I am distressed there is no Cure on there. I decided not to go with The Moon and Antarctica. I'm afraid my emaciated future-self would find the bone-filled island imagery too ironic. We'll assume double disc sets count as 'one', as Mellon Collie was a top contender...
Also, the 9th Symphony is there as there is no other album I'd rather aliens or future-archaeologists find amongst my parched bones some day. Remember: enjoyment now, showing off to future generations later.
