YOUR Top 10 Songs
May 27, 2007 at 10:18 PM Post #32 of 42
I have decided to spare myself the time consuming agony of trying to manually picking ten songs.

Instead, I have simply copied the ten most played songs on my Audioscrobbler account. Which should gave a fair approximation if nothing else.

Overall Top Tracks
1) Mike Oldfield – Crises
2) Mike Oldfield – Moonlight Shadow
3) Jean-Michel Jarre – Oxygene 2
4) Pink Floyd – Time
5) Mike Oldfield – Tricks of the Light
6) Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky
7) Jean-Michel Jarre – oxygene 4
8) Mike Oldfield – Discovery
9) Mike Oldfield – Shadow on the Wall
10) Mike Oldfield – Hergest Ridge (Part Two)

Looking at it. Id pick 2 from the whole list as contenders for my ultimate top ten.

Personaly, the technique must to allow to obtain the best result. No more and no less. It must to be in the service of the musical emotion.
The MUSIC : that's right the main part.

Greetings

I think you are absolutely right. This is a version of the old argument about form vs. content. Which is better: an ingeniously structured novel with boring characters and a trite story, or a rambling, discursive novel with intriguing characters and a compelling story?

I will always take equipment that sounds "right" to me (as hard as that is to quantify) over equipment that tests spectacularly and sounds lifeless. Which probably explains why I love Grados so much. My understanding is that their designers tune the cans by ear, rather than trying to generate a ruler-flat response curve. Works for me!

Yes, I think that the audiophile looks for the best result. The music lover looks for the most intense musical emotion. Of course, I make a mistake.

Nothing pejorative in my analysis. Each likes the music in the way, here is everything.

This is just what I came up with at the moment. Not in any way definitive. And no way are you going to get me to put them in order. I'd drive myself crazy trying to do so.

Otis Redding - "Try a Little Tenderness"
Elvis Costello - "Accidents Will Happen"
Dismemberment Plan - "The City"
Nick Drake - "Place to Be"
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - "Another Morning Stoner"
The Sundays - "Goodbye"
Talking Heads - "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)"
Radiohead - "Just"
Wheat - "Don't I Hold You" (Hope and Adams version)
My Bloody Valentine - "Soon"
