There is no pat answer; different systems, different music, personal preference. The main thing is you tested and have what you want.
Yes, of course. 👍

In my system iFi power supplies Elite and iPower X works better than any LPS I’ve tried with the switches I use.

Just got this IPP giving it time to settle. I wished IFI used a slightly larger metal case to better dissipate heat. It runs real warm though not hot am in tropics where temps typical in F90s.

Question for IFI Audio - if I am not listening and the streamer is off does the IPP goes into standby so it does not get that warm?

It runs warm even in England where it’s cold right now ! And no it doesn’t run any cooler when not streaming.

Thanks that’s too bad

I tested my IFI Purifier Pro with IFI USB Power as 5 volts power supply
vs
Silent Angel Bonn N8 with Forester 1 power supply with Luna Orange DC cable.

Well ...

N8 is much better, more texture, more expansive stage, more evident reverb.
When I put a standard switch before the IPP, it's a important step up but with N8 I didn't hear improvement.

Not the same price 4-5x higher ... of course but for sure a switch like netgear before the IPP is pretty much required IMO to bring some texture.
Interesting ! I have N8 + Forester but use it AFTER the Ifi iPurifier Pro (powered by ifi x upgraded SMPS) and like what I am hearing. So for me, I placed IPP right after the router then the N8 after the IPP

I have a reference system that shows every change. Same with me it definitely works better for me when I have IPP connected to the router, then I connect the switch to the IPP and finally the streamer.

I forgot that I had a spare ifi Lan isilencer sitting around and today put it into my hi fi chain right after the router; so my chain is now router to ifi lan isilencer to lan isilencer pro (IPP) to EE8 switch to another lan isilencer. Seems to work well. YMMV, so yes in total I am using 3 ethernet filters, yikes.

I not have keep my IFI purifier pro.

Mixed results.

- Good details and layers, more focussed center sound
- Smaller stage, Dryer and a bit liveless sound compared to my switch alone

I will put more money to have something bring me better everywhere.

Trying to be true to my word I completed assessments.

In my set-up (as noted previously) I found the following:

1: The 5 volt LPS (Small Green Computer-SGC) provided a smooth sound. Highs and lows in proportion and clear delineation of midrange with correct sound stage. Very detailed. (My Zen Stream also has a 12 volt LPS from SGC.)

2. iFi Power 2-Somewhat darker and less prominent but present detail. Clear midrange/correct soundstage. But clearly more dynamic sound (Better bass). More engaging and likable.

3. ifi Power X-less dark and more prominent details. Clear midrange and correct sound stage. Dynamic sound and engaging. Most likable. (Moved to this position in this my system.)

The LAN iPurifier Pro (without lights) is an isolator and not a complicated switch in my simplistic view. An LPS might be the preferred agent.

Testing in my system did not support this but as always your YMMV.

Obviously the Elite (for synergy and structure) may be preferred agent here and I await others views on this.

Update - I’m done!

So after the very succesful upgrade from iFi iPower X to iFi Elite for the Netgear I’ve added an iFi Elite 5v for the iPP:

FTTH -> IFi LAN iSilencer -> Router -> Ethernet Cat6 1.5m -> iPP w/iFi Elite 5v -> Ethernet Cat6 1m -> Netgear ProSafe GS105 w/iFi Elite 12v -> Ethernet Cat6a 1.5m -> Streamer w/Keces P6 & GhentAudio DC cable

Everything I hoped to achieve has now been accomplished:
  • Three-dimensional soundscape,
  • Improved soundstage width and depth,
  • Spatial realism with improved positional cues, and
  • Increased resolution.
The setup isn’t as elegant as having a single switch, such as an Innuos Phoenix Net, and it has the the visual ”appeal” of a DIY-project - however the performance is fantastic!

Edit: Let me add that it’s worth the effort to experiment with different power cords for the iFi Elite. ;-)

Absolutely thrilled we were able to play a part in making your system everything you want it to be!

Thanks so much for the support,...

Cheers!!
