my ipod has mostly 3.97 v0 vbr. Its my favorite compromise when using my hd595s. I have to see when i get my ad2000s if they are pickier. From what I've read though, they seem to be forgiving with mp3s

CDex to 192 kbps MP3 CBR (320 for classical).

Did a lot of testing, can't hear any improvement above 192 kbps.

yes its lossless-compressed. kind of hard to understand this concept, but think of it like this:

imagine you have this very long essay. in this essay there are bound to have a lot of identical words, such as the word "the" "and" "she" etc.. now lets say you make a index library of these words and everytime this word appears in the essay, the word is subsitute for a pointer to the index library. which means that only one instance of the word "and" will be saved in the essay, but all the other "and" that appears will be pointed toward this "and" saved in the index library. and substitue it when u open the essay. same concept applies to lossless compression in music where identical segments of data are indexed and later retrieved for access. i hope i made it easier to understand using layman's terms.

An even easier way to describe is to use an analogue. FLAC and Apple Lossless (which I use) are like ZIP files for audio. Just like ZIP files they take up about 1/2 the space of the origanal but after decoding are 100% identical.

Does anyone with an ipod encode with "Variable Bit Rate Encoding"

Is there any sound difference

Sound difference, compared to what? Constant bitrate?
