I'll hand out a few: Percussion, rumble, resonance, darkness, texture, "the walk", thump and of course, the player! Some of my favourite performers are bassists.

Tenor Saxophone - Stan Getz, Gene Ammons, Sonny Rollins, Coltrane, Michael Brecker....can go from sensual to sleezy at the rasp of a tongue

Oud - the contemplative sound makes listening to a taqsim on these an exercise in introspection
Kanun - beautiful delicate sound

I second that: a generally unappreciated instrument. I recently acquired a fantastic recording of Maggie Cole playing the Bach Goldberg Variations on harpsichord, and have been enjoying it immensely. It has dethroned the Perahia edition as my favorite.

Just thinking about it a little more....I love the sound and depth of a acoustic 12 string.

I guess i just can't pick a favorite!! It is like trying to pick a favorite song/piece, or band/performer....Just impossible for me to narrow it down. I just LOVE MUSIC!
