You Know You're an Audiophile When.. Version 2!

Drool.

YKYAAW you would never consider buying a headphone until deciding on every other needed component.

I'm jumping straight into the Abyss. Cool thing is, since I decided on an amp that is under $2,000 and outperforms all the others I was looking at (even one that costs nearly $20K!) and a DAC a little over $2,000 that outperforms many five-figure ones, I can invest that money (when I have it, that is) into maximizing the performance of the system.

YKYAAW you argue with people about the merits of properly designed cables, power management, and vibration control.

(After that, I will perhaps build an electrostat system [SR-009, SR-007, Orpheus, Float, DIY T2 amp, etc.] to complement that one, then add other headphones to the first system as an afterthought, mainly for the sake of variety.)

Whoa... What amplifier are you considering? You really sparked my interest! I'm considering the Bottlehead S.E.X. kit with C4S, impedance switch, stepped attenuator and capacitor upgrade, but I can persuade myself to consider additional options, too :D

YYAAW you listen to a song you haven't listened to in years, and here's the changes -
Last time listened, Apple earphones, iPod, probably 128kps file.
Now - 24 bit flac, quad armature IEMs (Audiofly AF180) and a dedicated DAC to process the 24bits. The difference is astonishing.

YKYAAW u devote time everyday to listen to ur gear, and when u vow only to use 1hr++, u end up using 4-5hrs.

YKYAAW you learn that aside from DSD, anything higher than 16-bit / 44.1 kHz is utterly pointless. (Scientific explanation here.)

^^^^This. Even us audiophiles gotta draw the line somewhere.

YKYAAW you listen to demo versions of music from a video game (Final Fantasy XIII) soundtrack and analyze the differences from the final versions.

Also, when you find a $28,000 interconnect cable and wonder how much of a difference it would make. (Wow, read that over the top description!)

Set the custom length to 1000 with XLR plugs...

Omg XD if I have a 28k interconnect, imagine how much my other gear is gonna cost.

hehe, that type of thing is usually used with high-end (we're talking six figures) speaker systems (and its speaker cable counterpart starts at $42,000), but it would be interesting to hear it with a headphone system. (It would really suck if you couldn't hear a difference between it and an affordable cable!)
