damn, you guys have some pretty pimped setups....

i use my cheap sonicxs that i got from compusa. which is pimped compare to what most people have in college. whcih is a good thing, i hate it when people abuse their woofers after 12am.

I got Dynaudio Audience 42's with Denon PMA-725R amp (to be replaced by Densen Beat B-100 or Primare A20) which I actually play all the time, so I'll do it reverse, when others are around I have to use Beyerdynamic DT 531 cause I always play too loud with A42's, well it depends on company

I still use my venerable 6-yr-old Altec's ACS48 speakers (2.1 setup).

It's quite good still really... I heard their new series of MX5021's are great as well...

I'm using the original Klipsch Promedia 5.1 too. When it first came out it was in a league of it's own as far as made-for-computers systems go. The high end Creative and Logitech offerings have surpassed the Promedia now but they are way overpriced.

Up until now my soundcard was a Audigy2 so there was no real need to upgrade my speakers as they far outclassed the quality of my source. But I just bought a 1212m and wow, I seriously need to upgrade the amp/speakers now. There goes my wallet yet again.

I thought Creative Megaworks 510D came out at about the same time as Promedia 5.1.The new gigaworks surpassed old promedia but the new Promedia Ultra costs more actually,Gigaworks can be found for under $300,wich is not overpriced at all.
Edit:I have megaworks 550.They sound quite muddy but decent for computer speakers. They are about as good as the old Promedia.

Meh, they sound alright, and they sure are smoother than the day I got em, but I've had them for two years now...I need new speakers, but not until I get my computer upgraded, for i have headphones, and speakers don't matter nearly as much as does a good cpu...

I have the Altec Lansing ADA880s, which are kinda like the ACS48, but more powerful, bigger sub(8"), dolby digital, and it comes with two POS trash surround satellites.
These speakers rock for 2.1. I borrowed my friend's brand new Altec Lansing MX5201, and listened to them right next to mine, and I still like mine better. There's a lot more range. MX5201 sounds lacking in the high range and low midrange.

I also listened to my speakers next to my JBL floorstanders with onkyo amp. There is hardly any distingushable difference.

I prefer listening to my speakers over my HD497s. I mostly only listen to my headphones when I go out on long trips, or at night when I don't want to bother anyone.

altec lansing 621. It's a bit of an older 2.1 system, but sounds alright. A bit grainy, but that sub lacks any form of tightness. Maybe because it's surrounded by wood within my computer desk.
