Why not just put the $200 or so into upgrading your cans?

To me, going from hd555 to hd600 without any external DAC or amp made a big difference. Which then you can further improve the HD600 by adding in DAC and amp later down the road and it will scale nicely.

Hmmm, I'm actually considering this. I can completely let go of my Core 2 + HD 4870 build in favor of better cans and amps. But I already have experienced the Sennheiser sound, and I'm looking into Grado now. What models will scale up great with the D2?
