My current rig is a 5.5 gen IPod, Total Bithead DAC/Amp, and Senn PX-100 headphones. I previously owned a Tomahawk and regretably sold it. Now I want it, or something like it, back. But, before I upgrade my amp, I want to upgrade my headphones.
To give you an idea as to my music preferences, Boston's "Hollyann" and Joe Cocker's "When the Night Comes" contains the depth of bass and wailing guitars that I love. I prefer tight well-defined bass instead of booming muddy bass.
I realize that the list of headphones below represent the lower end of "good", but based on lots of reviews on this site, it seems that these represent the best of the moderate cost range.
It seems that folks either rave or rant about the Grado's, and those diverse opinions really leave me at a loss regarding them.
From the list below, what's your suggestion?
Grado SR-60i $80
Grado SR-80i $99
Ultrasone HFI550 $129
Sony MDR-V700DJ $92
Shure SRH440 $100
