...added to the fray. Just received a new pair of K1000's. Source is a Squeezebox2->Roland M1000 mixer->DEQ2496->DCX2496 crossover.
My initial configuration uses 18 dB/oct slopes @ 60 Hz, highpass to the Grace 901 driving the K1000's and lowpass to the Outlaw M200 feeding the sub. The low-order Butterworth's seem to provide very smooth integration compared to the 24 and 48 dB/oct settings I tried.
My impression is that the K1000's would be unacceptably lean without a sub. And, a very modest 2 dB shelving filter for the treble seems to be in order, to better balance the midrange to the high-end.
The K1000's are fantastically comfortable. Wonderful to enjoy the detail of nice phones without cupping the ears.
